I’ve seen people refer to this a lot. Is what they’re doing - reviewing printed broadcast stills in the dugout - actually illegal? Because it’s not real-time.

This is why I’m swinging back to football.
Everyone knows you have to be a hard-ass to play baseball. But what used to be an at least superficial nobility about it all has been replaced with whiny petulance and drama queens, especially among the white guys from upper-middle-class upbringings. The NFL guys, well, no drama, they seemingly always smile no matter what is happening, then fly all over the field with the transient intent to kill each other. Baseball is a better game, at least when the ball bounces on the field. But I like the football players more.

I cannot function in an either/or mindset regarding a sport preference. They are too different, and as with most things, more information complicates one’s opinions. Had a certain media ethos existed in 1951, the type of reverence exhibited by Ken Burns would have been undermined by the cf telescope mounted by the Giants. Too many people have never removed the halo from baseball, except for the commonly accepted popular villains

Never meet your heroes.

Stripling says he is going to hit Astros batters. And so it begins…

Do umps allow two or three free retributive plunks without consequence? Perhaps to lead off the game? The circus demands it; are you not entertained?

As I read Manfred’s explanation, the use of technology within the same game is the violation. You can use technology, and you can steal signs. But you can’t use the info you get through technology (I don’t think he limited it to cameras) in the same game you got it. If they had filmed the day before and figured it out, then told players who relayed it from 2nd base, or the bullpen as long as viewed with the naked eye and not binoculars or some kind of lens, (no word of glasses or contacts are considered tech) then no infraction. The Red Sox are alleged to have deciphered with tech (camera) and told players with tech (watch) within the game who then relayed from 2nd base.

So today Bellinger rips the Astros and Bauer rips the Astros. Does the Commissioner make any effort to stop this crap he started?

Surely you jest. As long as everybody is focused on the Astros and not asking about anybody else, Manfred is happy.

It’s a fucking mess and it’ll probably get dangerous for players and fans.

Mob mentality, courtesy MLB.

I am a little afraid someone is going to get hurt.

Someone is definitely going to get hurt. If it’s an Astro (or three), the mob will cheer. If it’s somebody on another team, it’ll be because the Astros are dirty, cheating scum.

They better work out a code of conduct and enforce it. I can see Manfred vacating the 2017 victory just to throw the mob a bone

No, that is not going to happen. Why “can you see that”? Manfred has made his play. Anger from butthurt players and faulty supposition from butthurt Yankees and Dodgers fans is not going to suddenly make the commissioners office strip the World Series. It is not going to happen.

Manfred’s propensity for capitulation in the face of threat to his mlb stewardship is an open question to me

Dodger fans MURDERED an opposing fan a few years ago. Astros fans are in much more jeopardy than the players. I’ve done an Astros roadie for at least 10 years in a row, have no plans to make one this season.
