Trade Deadline

One of the two Astros’ ace starting pitchers is a free agent in two months, and they have Jim Crane as their owner. There is little to no chance Ramon Urias is the end of their deadline acquisitions.

Single A pitcher Twine Palmer is headed to Baltimore in the deal.

I didn’t say that, and hardly think that would be the case.

Everyone here would like the Astros to add a left-handed bat. But, I’d rather have Dylan Cease than the left-handed hitters on the market other than Steven Kwan. If they could get Cease and Correa at a price we can live with, that would be a great outcome.

Even if they only acquire Cease, it would be a big boost to their potential chances in October.

Not highly ranked but a sneaky-interesting guy. Astros have dozens of those.

If SD wants a utility guy as part of a deal for Cease, as some have speculated, I wonder if acquiring Urias makes Dubón expendable? I just saw someone make that speculation. Urias is cheaper than Dubon, but man, I bet the clubhouse wouldn’t like that. And I’m not sure I would either.

I noticed Urias has high grades on defense, particularly at 3B.

Yes, he does. He’s won a gold glove. I like that he has a year of arb left and we didn’t give up a key piece for him. The deal is definitely growing on me. I fell victim to the initial knee jerk reaction as usual. I think this is a good move by Brown and he’s just starting to cook.

The Mariners just got Suarez from the Diamondbacks.

The Red Sox are getting Steven Matz.

It’s starting to heat up!!

The Mariners are formidable.

Reports now that talks with SD have cooled and Astros are talking to the Marlins about Sandy Alcantara. I would like this a lot, he’s having a pretty terrible season but the guy won the cy young a couple years ago and like we always say, if anybody can fix him. He’s also under team control for 2 more years after this one at 17M and 21M(team option)

I don’t understand how we would have the capital to get Alcantara.

I am less concerned about the rotation than I am about the lineup. The team needs a run producing hitter in the lineup badly.

It might be in anticipation of non-tendering Dubie after the season. I love having him on the team and he seems very popular in the clubhouse but his last arbitration salary may be more than the Astros think he’s worth.

I’m kind of thinking the Astros are taking the approach of targeting groups of players but waiting till the bitter end to take whomever is left from each group for what they hope will be a lesser cost. This versus an approach of targeting a player and pushing to out bid others to get that one player that they really want.

“I see many things. Plans within plans.” The trades must flow.

Urias trade official. Orioles also sent cash to Astros. Guess there’s a chance the Astros may stay under the CBT line (Urias wouldn’t put them over anyway, just thinking re: other deals).

Dear Astros…please don’t get rid of Dubi, he’s an instrumental part of this team and clubhouse.
Thank you, older than dirt Astros fan.

I went into the future and saw 14,500,000 possible combinations of trades.

How many players stayed healthy?

One.
