Trade Deadline

Explains why Miller wasn’t available last night. A’s still beat the Mariners, though.

I made a last minute trip to the Space Cowboys game last night to see Pena play (and Javier was pitching which I didn’t even know until I got there). Both looked good, Pena smoked a line drive in the first that was caught with a circus catch, and hit a home run later in the game that I had a chance to get but a kid beat me to it. Javier went into the 4th hitting 93-94 consistently. Space Cowboys tip: on Wednesdays you can get a general admission ticket for free if you bring stuff to give away to Goodwill AND Wednesday is dollar dog night.

Just like “Altuve” has become a measure of distance, “Preller” should be a measure of cocaine.

Not defending Preller, but it was going to take an offer the A’s couldn’t refuse for them to move Miller.

I wonder if this makes it more likely that Robert Suarez is traded for the outfielder or catcher San Diego wants.

I love Preller, man. He may not always make the right deal but nobody can ever say he isn’t trying everything he can to win

That would be very Preller.

Sears also backfills Cease’s spot when they trade him.

I do agree with others, I don’t really see a way that we land him, don’t think we have the pieces to get it done. Would look great in an Astro uniform though

It could be a great trade for SD for all I know. Preller is just addicted to high-risk moves.

From MLBTR:

July 31: Nightengale reports that the talks between the two clubs are “all but dead,” adding that Houston asked Minnesota to pay “about $50MM” of the $102.5MM remaining in Correa’s contract and also asked for an outfielder to be included in the deal. Nightengale adds that the Twins rejected that offer and “aren’t budging” from that position. Rome reports (alongside The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal) that talks between the sides have continued despite both sides downplaying the likelihood of a trade.

If the Astros asked for $50M to be paid down, the Twins should have absolutely laughed out loud.

Twins are in a tight spot with a losing season, an underwater contract, a player with a full no-trade, and ownership in the middle of trying to slash expenses to sell the team. Astros seem to be their only option to get any relief on that deal. Can’t blame Crane for playing hardball.

Well then, they can pay $102.5 million.

I’m betting the OF they wanted included was Willi Castro. As far as the rest…what HH said, “Then they can pay the full $102.5M.”

I heard it was/is Larnach

I don’t think the deal is dead. I just think Crane understands the game.

Twins have 2 choices

  1. keep Correa and have the debt on the books while trying to find a buyer.

  2. Trade Correa to the Astros.

Its all about what number makes #2 more attractive than #1.

Crane has a good record of getting his man once he has his eyes on a big name.

I’m hoping they don’t let the Correa talks keep them from adding the left-handed bat. I think that is the biggest need. I would also love a SP (club is obviously pushing for such) but if the stars align (they haven’t so far) would theoretically get by without one.

Supposedly, they are talking to Cleveland about Kwan. I would be over the moon if they landed him but like with Alcantara, I just don’t think they have the amo to get a deal done there

I think they already have moved on from an additional bat.

At this point, I think if they get Correa that WILL be the bar, unless they get a throw in included.

If they get Correa, great…but otherwise not adding a bat will be a shame IMO. With Framber and Brown (assuming he can get back to early season form) at the top of our rotation I feel like we can beat anybody if the ball bounces our way…but we have to have a lineup that makes the opposing pitcher sweat/work at least a little bit. No matter, I trust in Crane and Dana to play it the best they can.

I must be in the minority here, but I don’t Correa back if it costs us anything other than cash dollars. I just don’t think he’s worth the cost anymore.

A Correa deal makes a lot more sense to me than it did when I first heard about it. I can see it helping both teams. Kwan would be a great addition but I can’t see any world in which the Astros can give Cleveland a better offer than anyone else who’s interested.
