So apparently BOS is making Jarren Duran available. They apparently need starting pitching. Would you part with Arrighetti for him? We are thin in the rotation too so that might be a price we aren’t at liberty to pay but thought I’d throw it out there. Acquiring him would push Altuve back to 2B but if you want a lefthanded bat that plays on the infield that is probably going to be hard to come by.
I would do it, depending on what else goes Bostons way.
I’m sure I sound like a broken record here, but my target would be Jesus Sanchez from Miami. Would be a cheaper cost and I think there is some real upside there.
Rosenthal says the Astros are looking for a “top-of-the-rotation starter” (and were even before McCullers’ blister), preferably one with club control – presumably Framber’s eventual replacement.
If they can’t get a starter, they’ll go for a high-leverage reliever. They are also looking for a LHB that can play 2B, and could explore options at 3B as well due to Paredes’ injury.
Erick Fedde was just DFA’d by STL. He pitched well last year for both CWS and STL. Better for CWS, but still pretty good after the trade to STL as well. This year however has been a different story. I went to Baseball Savant and velo/spin rates, year to year, look basically the same so not sure if the the league(s) figured him out or if it’s lack of command or game plan. Regardless, he makes $7.5M this year and set to be a FA at year’s end. He might qualify as a depth piece.
With a week left until the deadline now it’s finally time for Astros fans to start expecting Brown to make a deal. I’m hopeful but guarded. I know Brown is not dealing from a position of strength. Sellers are not plentiful…and payroll constraints along with a beatdown farm system will make dealing difficult. All that said, fingers crossed Brown can pull a rabbit (or two) out of his hat.
I see no chance of them acquiring Correa (or any reason to, for that matter) at the deadline. You can at least squint and see a case for it once Abreu’s contract is off the books, but not much of one.
