How does he grade with RISP? Is he 3 for 76 with 2 RBI, like the rest of the Astros are?

Heās slipped a little but heās still above average defensively. Heās not been very good offensively this year but on a positive note, he doesnāt strike out much, 98th percentile K% according to savant
Offense looks on par with what we got minus Hummel and Hummel should hit bench or worse when Pena (knock on wood) is activated later this week.

This would certainly be in keeping with the Crane era for first place teams at the trade deadline.
Its interesting because the Padres are looking for MLB help not prospects.
They are on record as only trading Cease if it helps the MLB roster - they are looking for catcher, LF, and utility infielder.
And to get another SP to backfill Cease.
Doesnāt feel like a match but stranger things have happened.

I didnāt say I liked the idea but he said he didnāt think we were a match and I think Yainer fits the bill. Dana has said we will more than likely have to trade from the major league roster to get a deal done.

Trading Yainer for MLB pieces under control (ie not just Cease) makes a lot of sense under the right circumstances. Caratini has been good and they like Salazar as a backup. When the Rays traded Jansen yesterday and were reportedly āworking on a deal for another catcherā (ended up being a guy from the Marlins) I thought it made sense if Yainer was headed to Tampa as part of a larger deal with Brandon Lowe coming to the Astros.
Iām sure Iām in the minority, but I wouldnāt lose any sleep if Yainer was traded.

Exactly right. Not saying I want to see Yanier go but you have to give to get and this would be one way to acquire talent.

Wow, Bob Nightengale reporting Astros indeed have interest in bringing Correa back. I canāt believe it. Iām all in on thisā¦and the part I like is that if Crane is willing to make a deal for Correa that essentially means heās willing to blow through the luxury tax so thereās no reason to stop with just Correa if it happens. Iām trying to temper my expectations, but itās hard not to be excited by this rumor.
Except that he doesnāt stay healthy, would have to learn a new position on the fly, and is barely a league average hitter this year.

I echoed your comments a few days back when I first read about it but most of my negative thoughts revolved around his contract and the Astros being up against the luxury tax threshold. I just thought it was a pipe dream under that scenario, but if Crane decides he doesnāt give a damn about that I would welcome such a deal. Heās still just 30 (will be turning 31 soon) and should have some good years left in the tank. Itās the type of deal that signals Crane is going for it. Maybe this is the clubās last shot to do soā¦you never know. Go get Correa and try and add Cease. You get those two and add back Pena, Yordan and hopefully a starter or two between Javier, Arrighetti, Garcia, Walter and maybe France/McClullers and you really have a shot.

On the outside chance that the AL Central Division absolutely tanks and the Astros somehow back their way into the postseason, it would be like a HS football coach resting their starters and playing their JV players the last couple of games leading up to the playoffs for a team that dominated. That rarely works out well. Letās say they land Correa and his .267, .319, .386 slash line and land Cease and his 4.79 ERA. They do exactly what again to enhance the assembled AA team around them? Letās say 50% of the core yet injured players come back by the end of the season and 50% of them perform at least league average. Thatās maybe one position player and one pitcher that might have a meaningful impact. Iām just not seeing it.
Iām having a crappy day and am a glass-half-empty guy this morning, if yāall canāt tell.
