Trade Deadline Possibilities 2021

I am very pro this trade. Graveman has a liiiiive arm and can only benefit from Strom and the geniuses. Toro deserves a future and doesn’t have one with the Astros as constituted (the timing given Bregman in Sugarland and Diaz back, etc). To say nothing of the poetry of losing such an epic fuckup one night to this team and doing this deal with them before the next game… I love it. I am on board. Make Graveman a hero and sign him for more years, please.

Yeah, Smith is a great guy, but it was time. In hindsight, his taking the year off last year might have hurt his career.

I like Toro and really, really, really liked Smith. I’ll miss them both, but we need pitching.

Mariners’ fans are melting down about this move.

Checking the salaries… Graveman makes $1.25M and is a FA; Monterey makes $2.25M and is arb-eligible; Smith makes $4M and Toro makes the minimum, so yes, this matches salaries almost exactly.

Someone not paying attention to the news would look at tonight’s lineups and go “WHERE the fuck is Toro?”

Any time you trade a utility player that probably doesn’t have a current spot on the big league roster for a 7th 8th inning type arm, you say thank you and move on with your day.

Not spending any money or losing anything major is a bonus!

Hey, he might be VERY easy to spot.

This is better news than I could have imagined after going swimming last night with my phone in my pocket.

Great trade by Click that partially addresses the glaring need for bullpen help.

Fuck them. Now they can boo Graveman.

Yep. I love Toro as much as anyone, but this was just a good old fashioned baseball move. Thanks for being an Astro, and best of luck.

I imagine not. They’d rather face Brooks Raley.

I have to admit, from a Seattle standpoint I don’t understand this move. Their team is still building for the future, but you can’t ignore they are in the race.

I’ve never liked Dipoto and glad he’s not my GM. He makes trades just to make trades.

Yeah, I think we’re going to be seeing lots of Toro in the coming years, and not in a good way. Still, a good trade though.

Well, I think Toro will help a team plenty in the future. The guy can play.

So, we are a position player short on the bench tonight correct? And Garcia can’t come back until 10 days barring injury correct?

Agreed. He can play, and will contribute to any team. His only problem with the Astros is he can’t pitch.
