Trade Deadline Possibilities 2021

What I saw is SD is after a starter. No mention of which one.

It was reported by a twitter account claiming to be an MLB reporter “Mike Hawk.”

This must have been what was in my timeline. My bad.

That’s why the Dodgers went all in on Bauer. Go Pads!

We can add “no evidence of any traction” to the trade deadline cliches…

How about “on the verge of acquiring”

You’re gonna have to start ranking these in order of seriousness

The A’s-Cubs deal appears to be done. One of the players the A’s are sending to the Cubs is minor league outfielder Greg Deichmann. He’s ranked 9th in Oakland’s system.

Based on this trade and what the Yankees gave up to get Clay Holmes, I’d say quality reliever help is going to be very expensive.

So you’re saying we may have to throw in cash considerations?

This might complicate matters…

Damn! Hate that about Rogers. Was really hoping we could get him. So, what are some options???

I’d love to have him, but I think in the end Kimbrel is going to be too rich for our blood.

Rodriguez and Bleier would make me happy. Added bonus would be that you could get both and stay under the threshold.

Are we going to get another starter for rotation depth and to rest key cogs down the stretch? If so who? Jon Gray?

Deadline fast approaching.

Silver lining from last night’s game:

It HAD to move Click’s motivation up to a new level regarding the bullpen.

Although:

  1. Garcia started it. Young guys gotta learn but that was a tough one. I still think he will be a very good pitcher for this team for a long time.

  2. Dusty used Pressly in a nonsave situation Saturday. He gave up his first run in forever ( closers are notorious for not pitching as well in nonsave situations). Then Dusty said the reason Raley was in the game is because Pressly had pitched back to back games.

Javier only threw 8 pitches Friday after an off day. If he had pitched the 9th Saturday, with a 4 run lead, Pressly would have been in yesterday for a 4 out save.

This is all bullshit though. The reason Raley was in the game was because Dusty panicked.

The problem is not as much the pitchers in the bullpen as it is Baker’s management of them.

As I’ve previously stated, Dusty should make no pitching decisions. None.

Listening to Jayson Stark’s podcast this morning, Jim Bowden credited Dusty with the development of these young pitchers over the past two years without ever saying Strom’s name. I turned off the podcast and nearly threw my phone out the window.

Total bullshit.

AWFUL

I know Strom has mad respect within baseball and from baseball people.

It would be so nice if media members would let more fans know.

And frigging be accurate. Dusty didn’t “develop” anything, except an aversion to good managing.

Fixed.

Why we need bullpen help:

BB%
Paredes 32.1%
Scrubb 16.3%
Stanek 14.7%
Garza 14.3%
Solomon 14.3%
N.Rodruguez 12.9%
Javier 11.8%
Abreu 11.6%
Taylor 11.6%

MLB Avg 8.7%

BAvg against:
Smith .376
Pruitt .273
Raley .268
Garza .262
Bielak .262
Solomon .250

MLB Avg .244

So- the theme here: except Pressly, the pitchers who don’t walk batters give up too many hits. The pitchers who don’t give up too many hits walk too many batters.

This bullpen can not keep batters off base. Baserunners score runs. Allowing runs loses games.

Oh, but Baez and James are on the way to help? Baez has allowed over 9.5% BB rate the past 4 years, and James career number is over 13 with each season worse than the previous.
