Trade Deadline Possibilities 2021

If this is true, then all the more reason for Click to focus on upgrading CF…

I wonder if there is any chance of Verlander pitching in October? I know it must be very very slim.

Nobody has given an update in a while.

But that would change the bullpen

If the team gets Marte, I think Straw or McCormick must be in the deal.

I have read that Mia is interested in Straw.

I like both players but see both as role players, long term, so it wouldn’t hurt too terribly to lose one/both of them.

Source?

As Jim said, pitching should be our priority, but if I could get Marte I’d grab him. And if it cost me Straw or McCormick so be it. I’d prefer to keep Straw, but oh well. Putting Marte in our lineup would be fantastic. And if a certain player’s leg issues continue to raise their head and be a problem, getting Marte would help minimize that loss in our order.

This.

I guess Marte would lead off. With Marte and Bregman back, the Astros would have a formidable 1-8. But Marte would have to be cheap. He’s a rental and the Astros don’t really need him to be a strong contender. As many have said, their available prospects/players are going to go for pitching.

Starling Marte being traded to the A’s…

ETA:

Barf. A’s with 2 good deals so far. Assholes.

MLB alert said it’s Luzardo in return

He’s struggled mightily this year, but that’s a really good gamble for Miami to take. He has a lot of talent.

Yep. Not far removed from being considered one of the top prospects in baseball.

So would Stros’ best comp have been say, Whitley?

Spell check

No one named Whitely on the Astros IL

I don’t think there is a real comp. Luzardo was a #9 overall prospect (entering last year) who’s now been pitching in the bigs for parts of the last 3 seasons.

Miami is covering all of Marte’s remaining contract, explaining how they got such a big return.

Great lottery ticket, but I thought Miami was happy with organizational pitching depth/talent and were looking for position players?

Great example of these “analysts”, “insiders” talking out of their rear ends.

You can look for something specific all you want, but if a great deal drops in your lap, you take it and figure things out elsewhere

He was good as a rookie last year, and has amazing stuff. He’s struggled this year but is only 23, not sure if he’s been hurt at any point or anything.
