Trade Deadline Possibilities 2021

Yep, he’s a 95+ fastball guy who hasn’t generated as many strikeouts this year as he has in the past but doesn’t generate a lot of hard hit balls against him and hitters don’t barrel him up that often. I think he’s definitely a guy Strom can work magic with.

I only read about it, but I thought there was one later than that. I did get the Old Man reference, of course.

The tweet is a pic of text so I’ll summarize:

Dusty was buying shoes at Nordstrom’s when Click called to tell him. 10 seconds later Toro walked by him.

The one I read about (my research says) was Cal Abrams traded by Brooklyn to Cincy in between games of a DH on 6/8/52. That story may be apocryphal; Baseball Reference says the trade was 6/9/52.

Good deal.

I hate to see Toro go but it had to be.

I thank Smith for past service and being a great guy.

Congrats on a wonderful career

But he needed to go.

Addition by addition AND subtraction.

Good step #1 Click.

Nice job by Click. Abraham Toro did an admirable job holding down the fort at third base until Diaz and Bregman return, but this is simply a move that had to be made. Graveman has turned his career around after moving to the bullpen, and the team can now use either Javier or Stanek as 6th/7th inning relievers.

The Mariners are trying to make the playoffs, but they believe they are a few years away from truly contending. Toro is controllable beyond this season, whereas Graveman isn’t.

Montero is shown on active roster but Graveman isn’t

Straw is the 5th infielder.

From a guy who would know:

Could be. I knew about the one in the 20s, and about Youngblood playing for two teams on the same day.

Maybe Toro is going to be traded again before the deadline. Seattle’s Genius GM hinted this is the first trade in a series to come.

Toro and Smith are great guys but neither can be much help to the Astros this year and its all about this year. Seattle GM sold the players and the fans out big time. Glad Click was able to take advantage.

On August 4, 1982, Youngblood became the only player in history to get hits for two different teams in two different cities on the same day.[5]Youngblood started the day as the starting centerfielder for the Mets on the road in Chicago against the Cubs, who played all their home games in the afternoon at the time due to Wrigley Field having yet to install lights. In the third inning, hitting off of future Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins, Youngblood drove in two runs with a single.[6] He was on deck in the next inning when he was called back to the dugout, where he was informed that he had been traded to the Montreal Expos. Not only had he been traded, but the Expos had requested that Youngblood make himself available for their game later that evening in Philadelphia as they were particularly short handed on players. After saying goodbye to his Mets teammates, checking out of his hotel room in Chicago, and then having to return to Wrigley Field to retrieve his fielding glove, Youngblood boarded a 6:05 PM flight from O’Hare International Airport and landed in Philadelphia approximately ninety minutes later. He reached Veterans Stadium, where the Expos were playing the Phillies, during the sixth inning and Expos manager Jim Fanning called on Youngblood to pinch hit shortly after his arrival. Facing another future Hall of Famer in Steve Carlton, Youngblood reached on an infield single when Manny Trillocould not field the ball cleanly. No one has accomplished this feat since.

Would be the only way this trade would make sense from a Seattle standpoint…in my opinion.

That is essentially what he was quoted as saying.

Robel Garcia is now listed as active and so is Graveman

No transaction listed though other than the trade

I watched a three minute interview with Graveman on Twitter. I think we will like him a lot. The interviewer was Seattle media who tried to emphasize Graveman’s disappointment. Our new pitcher handled it well and said all the right things about leaving; at the same time he twice expressed excitement about the opportunity to be with the Astros and the talent and winning tradition he is joining.

ETA: Click hit a home run with this deal. I hope there is more to come.

I hope Click told the Seattle GM to call him first if he wants to make another trade.

We can trade Robel for Toro, and then turn around and trade Toro for Scherzer.
