The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

Elon, let this guy run Twitter.

Correa’s catastrophic contract chase continues…

Boras takes a pay cut and Cohen gets left with his hat in his hand? Count me in.

Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal has a vesting option that can max out at $270 million. It is pending physical.

Key word “pending physical.”

Really curious what the terms of that vesting option are when the details come out. Does it become 8/$270M if he plays a certain number of games? Is it automatic or can the player decline?

Also, bwahahahahaha indeed.

Does this mean he can no longer wear #1 and has to wear #3 since he’ll be the third highest paid SS (per year) next year?

The Twins have once again come to his rescue, so he wont have to be humiliated any longer.

He could have avoided all of this too. I am guessing Crane would have moved up on his 5-year $160M (30 per) offer should CC have chosen to negotiate to stay. It’s not materially different than the 6-year $200M (33 per) offer with the Twins.

This entire saga has been hilarious. To quote Mark, “preening hot dog” indeed.

The “3” is for the number of contracts he signed this offseason.

I’m just glad to see that there is some limit to the escalating contracts.

His injury status deters teams, even though two reached contracts with him. There must be some early arthritic overlay not readily apparent on a cursory examination. This is not the marquee headline he sought while planning his ascension to the pantheon of rich athletes.

Unfortunately this all ends with the Dodgers giving him 2 years and $90M.

Coach has been correct from the beginning. This is about Ego and nothing else.

Correa has made about $67M so far in his career.

He will make at least another $200M before he is 35 years old.

None of the offers he has had from the Astros to Giants, Mets, Twins or any of the rest are any different as far as his quality of life.

He and his family and the grandkids of his grandkids won’t have to worry about being homeless or hungry.

And which of the offers he chose doesn’t change that. It only changes how he feels about himself.

It’s objectively funny but at the same time, and I know I am very much in the minority here, I kinda feel bad for Carlos. I know, I know, ego! Greedy! Poor Carlos! Whatever. I don’t care. Carlos has worked his whole life to be great, and he has been great. He was good enough to get not one but two 300+ million dollar offers this offseason and would have signed either, if not for an 8 year old injury that has yet to affect him in any way since. Even if this Twins deal comes good, that injury has cost him 100 million dollars. That sucks I don’t care who you are or how much money you have, that sucks.

In general I would agree, but I have found such entertainment in this drama that at this point the messier it gets the happier I am. Anything to keep me entertained during the void.
