I really hope this happens, too. Figure out a way to get Vazquez 100-110 starts at catcher, 1B (spelling Abreu) and DH in 2023 and have him be the primary catcher in 2024 and beyond.
My opinion that his swing didn’t look ML quality is nothing compared to the team shopping feverishly for a catcher
Not “ML Quality” or not “ML Ready”? I think that is the question everybody is asking. It is clearly one or the other, though if it is the latter, that could change quickly.
Not ML Ready, for sure.
This is stretching the thread title a touch… But it’s pretty great.
Now we are having foxes!
What did they say though?
No. Bad Doyce.
If I have to have that shit in my head when I see a fox, then you do too
Not ML Ready, for sure.
I may have been too nuanced with my question, or maybe reading too much into your answer. I was implying that he was either not ML Quality (meaning never will be) or not ML Ready (meaning just wait a year or two, because the quality will come).
So with that clarification, are you saying that the quality will come? Or are you saying that I am trying to split hairs that are not meant to be split?
Would Lee be ready by the time Maldy is moving on? The timetable is the question. The solution might be playing for another team currently
I don’t want to put words in Jim’s mouth, so I’ll give you my take (which I think is the same as Jim’s): I don’t know right now whether his bat might eventually be ML-quality, but it certainly isn’t right now.
Speaking just for me, I think his defense is the bigger problem, and that’s bad news at that position. He doesn’t seem very smooth to me, and it seemed like too many pitches got past him. Limited sample size, to be sure: a couple of games at RR and his few Astros appearances. But I’m skeptical right now. No idea what his game prep and relationship with pitchers are like.
Oakland, has traded Shawn Murphy to the Braves. No word yet on the return.
The NL East has been gaining talent.
Thanks — apart from a few tv games, I have not seen his D. Agree that is a key.

The Nationals couldn’t have picked a better time to rebuild

It’s allegedly a menage a trois involving the Brewers.
William Contreras (Willson’s brother, younger but similar player) headed from Atlanta to Milwaukee in the deal. I was wondering if Atlanta would listen on d’Arnaud after getting Murphy, but if they’re trading Contreras then probably not.
NL East is shaping up as a bloodbath next year.
- Braves catchers Manny Piña and William Contreras are reportedly heading to Oakland and Milwaukee, respectively.
- Outfield prospect Esteury Ruiz, who Milwaukee acquired in the Josh Hadertrade this summer, is also going to the A’s, a major-league source said.
I don’t understand how this squares with the asking price reported previously
