There has to be more. Surely the A’s would ask for more than the 97-year old Pina and a banjo-hitting, negative WAR prospect. Right?
Bassitt to Blue Jays for 3/63
I was kinda hoping Bassit might be an option should we decide to part with a piece of current rotation in trade. So much for that I guess.
Passan reporting A’s are getting:
LHP Kyle Muller
UT Esteury Ruiz
RHP Freddy Tarnok
RHP Royber Salinas
C Manny Pina
Brewers are getting:
C William Contreras
RHP Justin Yaeger
RHP Joel Payamps
From MLBTrade Rumors:
For the A’s, it’s been reported that they have been prioritizing MLB-ready talent in their trade talks and they have achieved that here. Muller, 25, has appeared in each of the past two major league seasons, logging 49 innings so far. He has an unimpressive 5.14 ERA in that time, but he’s fared much better in the minors. He’s made 40 Triple-A starts in the past two years and has a 3.40 ERA, 28.4% strikeout rate and 9.2% walk rate. Baseball America recently ranked him the top prospect in Atlanta’s system.
I like Muller and hoped the Astros would’ve acquired him at some point, but this still feels like an underwhelming return for Murphy, more quantity than actual quality. Maybe this means there’s a deal for Vazquez or a trade for Alejandro Kirk?
Fun fact: Daulton Varsho led all MLB outfielders in outs above average last season and was fifth among all position players. Based on that data, I wonder if the brain trust sees him as the answer in center field more so than catcher.
What it means from the A’s standpoint: lipstick on a pig they want to sell to Las Vegas.
Seems like a very un-Oakland trade but who knows.
I am saying I have not seen him enough to judge/project quality. I am saying he certainly is not ready because they are trying hard to get another catcher.
Is William Contreras’ 2022 considered a fluke, or did Milwaukee just pull off a major heist?
Varsho is miscast as an everyday player.
His defense is elite. Even better than Chas or Jake who are exceptional.
All 3 have below average arms.
LHP appears to be his kryptonite
Vs LHP
Career .276OBP/.339SLG/.615 OPS
2022: .250 / .303 / .553
Vs RHP
Career .315 / .465 / .781
2022: .327 / .484 / .801
He looks like a perfect platoon w/ Chas for me but he will probably cost what an All Star everyday CF costs.
My “friend” just posted the Astros are very close to a deal with Vazquez. Maybe even today.
Oh, man. I hope so.
Please make it so. To which Astros icon do I pray? Julio Gotay?
Good credibility test. Would love to see Vazquez back. He would be a fantastic successor to Machete.
Seemed like Vazquez and Maldonado got along pretty well. Hope it’s true.
That is not necessary, my Son.
