Holy crap, we’re 3 days into the void and we already have 100 posts on interesting stuff. I hope this keeps up because I absolutely loathe the void otherwise.
He reported that the deals would be announced at the press conference. Dude is the most careless reporter in the industry.
That title may be shared with a few hundred of his colleagues.
I could use less drama following the teams’ best year ever in their 60th season.
I find the void to be less dreadful after winning the whole fucking thing!
Nightengale is balls-on accurate compared to Heyman.
He may get renewed but sweet jesus this is such an unnecessarily messy situation…
So, in general, I like Jim Bowden. He can give you a lot of insight on how things in the front office of a big league team work. Having said that, he just wrote in an article that the Astros’ “best play” would be to move Alvarez to first base full time. I had to read it twice to make sure I was reading it correctly. Has Yordan EVER played first base in the minors??
Just a handful of games at each level. Bowden certainly never saw him play there. And it sounds like he probably hasn’t seen him play LF either if he think they should move him to 1B.
Yes, and he was fine there. He did not play it much, but he and Tucker both played first base in RR.
If I was a person interested in baseball without any knowledge of Yordan’s background.
.just saw his size and hitting stats I would suggest he should move to first base.
It would be an ignorant and wrong opinion.
I could see Yordan at 1b if I viewed him through a Willie McCovey lens, but that would be a lazy take.
Looks a lot more likely for Yordan to be the full time LF:
He should be. He is excellent there.
Not surprised, but I am glad they both were Astros. Smith did not get into the Series (I saw him warm up once), but Mancini saved Game 5.
Mancini is one of the most likable players in recent memory

So I don’t know whether a CF upgrade is high on the to-do list for Click (or whoever is sitting in that GM chair) or if they simply proceed with McCormick/Meyers but if it’s the former…
The D-Backs do have have a plethora of young outfielders (not necessarily relevant but more as an interesting footnote all happen to be lefty hitters). Daulton Varsho and Corbin Carroll are almost certainly off limits. That leaves Jake McCarthy and Alek Thomas who can both play CF. McCarthy hit well as a rookie this past season (.283/.342/.427). Also has blazing speed (one of the 10 fastest runners in baseball per Statcast) and went 23-3 in SBs. Thomas is an outstanding defender and as a 22 year old rookie this year was actually a Gold Glove finalist. Struggled a bit at the plate however (.231/.275/.344). Offensive numbers in the minors were strong albeit inflated by playing in places like Amarillo and Reno. The outfield glut was such for Arizona that Thomas actually ended up back in AAA at the end of the year.
Apropos of nothing but triggered by your comments, that AZ outfield is ridiculously fast. If a ball gets between them it was either hit very hard or placed very precisely.
