The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

You’ve also got Leon, who could push for a roster spot next year. Assuming that his time at short was Pena insurance and he’ll go back to Center.

I have read that the White Sox are not going to try very hard to keep Abreu. He will need to turn down much better offers to return to them.

He will turn 36 before the season starts so won’t be looking for a long deal.

I have seen projections for 2 or 3 yrs at $17-19.5M ( and 1 crazy 3/$25 that I disregarded)

I think there is a good chance the Astros sign him in that range.

Rizzo will get a QO from the Yankees which immediately reduces the likelihood the Astros pursue him as well as his value.

I have seen projections in same range as Abreu.

Interestingly, Bell is younger than both but projects to be cheaper.

I have seen all 3yr projections in the $13-17M range.

I think I would be excited if the Astros signed Bell even at the largest projection I have found: 3yrs and $51M.

Bell is from Texas, fwiw

But does he have a ranch?

Abreu and Bell both look like good fits. I would love, love, love to add an OBP monster like Nimmo in CF but I expect that the Astros will avoid players tagged with a QO.

According to Cots contracts, the Astros have $72M to spend before hitting 1st CBT. But Crane may be OK with going over.

If it takes 3/$135 (Bowden’s projection) to sign JV that takes a big bite out of that.

I think the team could use the Odorrizi model to reduce the AAV.

3/$125M + $20M players option w/$10M buyout. AAV is $36.5M and he still gets his $135M over 3 yrs.

That leaves $35.5M

Sign Brantley 2yrs/$25M
Bell 3yrs/$51M

Payroll is $6M below the threshold.

Brantley had better be healthy under resigning circumstances. We have seven starters, including Brown Would moving one for positional help be a consideration?

The Astros just proved the value of pitching depth.

I would think they only consider this if JV resigns and only for an impact player with multiple years of control left.

But under those circumstances I think it would be a very good idea.

One factor I considered today: I don’t think Diaz returns.

Do it all at once and be a fucking legend, Crane.

That is the stuff of dreams!

I doubt they leave themselves such little wiggle room to go above the tax at the trade deadline if necessary.

I hope they bring Yuli back. His defense is top notch, and he showed in the postseason he can still hit when it really matters. Focus on getting production from the DH spot with someone who can also give regulars a day off in the field.

Still no confirmation from any other source, but Nightengale clarifying that it is indeed one-year deals for both. Strange re: Click but I’m glad we won’t have to hear about his contract status for ohhh another six or eight months.

Aaaaaaaand Nightengale was full of shit. Click’s future is still up in the air.

If Brantley is cheap and healthy, he might make sense there. Maybe get the spot start in LF to give Yordan some rest.

I don’t believe Nightengale ever suggested Click was part of tomorrow’s press conference. Just that he’d been offered a one year deal.

This with Click is….I don’t know the word for it…but I’ll say odd at the very least. If he has truly been offered a one year deal, as a World Series winning GM who, although the foundation was laid still had a significant part in building the winning team, it’s insulting. It’s beyond insulting. It screams from Crane that I don’t really want you here but I don’t have the balls to fire you, so here is a one year deal I hope you will turn down. At least that’s how I would view that offer if it is accurate. Dusty’s one year deal, I might can understand due to his age, but not Click.

Now, it’s Crane’s team and he can do whatever the hell he wants, but if I’m Click, I tell him to stick a one year deal in his rear.

If Click knows nothing about a press conference then this is probably about Dusty and possibly JV. Very possible that Crane and JV have worked out a deal between themselves once again.
