The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

I hate the Yankees, but I have always liked Judge. If the report is true, he is the anti-JV. Of course, “leaving money on the table” does not seem so heroic when the offers are $360 million and $400 million. JV and his ego would have waved bye-bye to the Big Apple.

It’s easy to be cavalier about $40MM when you can fall back on the other $360MM

Yup.

I have the same worries about McCullers.

So I watch and read a lot of stuff, and because I do I sometimes forget exactly where I read or heard it. Anyhow, whoever the person was that I was listening to at the time (within the last couple weeks) was being interviewed about the Astros and he said it was his understanding that Abreu was not going to be looked at as a starter moving forward. When asked about Paredes his response lead me to believe that he was hoping to get traded and get a fresh start with a new organization.

I liked Judge in the beginning, spite of him being a Yankee, but after he moaned and whined like a little girl about Altuve “cheating” him out of the MVP in 2017, I no longer liked him.

That blurb has been published because I read it also.

Bogaerts is 30.

11 year deal.

Ooookay.

How does this play out between him and Tatis? One of them moves to second?

The story of this whole offseason, clubs lowering their luxury tax hit by spreading out the dollars over more years.

This is also a bet on inflation. And with more and more future money committed, there will be upward pressure on the tax threshold.

Tatis is moving to OF

Tatis goes to the outfield, the Korean SS goes to 2nd. Won’t stop Tatis from dislocating his shoulder when he runs into a wall.

What are they going to do with Cronenworth?

1b, from what I’ve read

Back to Verlander and why I’m hoping he fails. This was a guy who said his daughter and his injury gave him a renewed love for the game and what’s important. Yet he goes for the money grab to a team with a former teammate (Scherzer) that he HATED. Compare that to Judge who turned down a LOT of money to stay with his current team and I assume teammates he liked/enjoyed being around.

When your net worth is around half a billion I’ve got to think the experience is the most important thing and any former ballplayer (who has won it all) talks about how incredible an experience it was. He knows he has a MUCH better chance of getting that experience with the Astros rather than the Mets but it’s all about the money for him. I wish him nothing but failure.

Won’t deny Verlander is a mercenary and is in love with himself. Could also be that he’s looking for a new challenge, he and his wife are up for new scenery, and it was apparent that he was being outpaced by emerging talent on the Houston staff. Or, some combination of all.

Once you’re done spiraling down the troll steps list, could you please calm the fuck down?

I try to stay out of these discussions about when a guy leaves for more money because I am not going to change peoples mind or make anybody see, what I think is reason.

But I just have to say, wishing failure for guys like JV, Correa and Springer, is fucking childish in my opinion. These guys do not owe us or the Astros a damn thing and helped bring titles to Houston. The only guy that has left for money that I wish failure on, is Cole. And that has nothing to do with him going after the money and everything to do with the disrespectful way that he handled himself on the way out.

I hope JV continues to be the HOF pitcher that he is, other than against the Astros of course. I hope Correa signs a good deal and has a good career. I spend zero emional energy wishing ill on any of those guys

I agree. I hope JV loses a lot of 1-0 games, though. Because, the Mets.
