The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

Goodness, projection much? I made an innocuous comment without a link a few days ago, and he attacked with his normal whiny sarcasm. Since it wasn’t the first time he acted like a child, I responded in kind. If I remember from one of those unprovoked attacks last year, you rushed to his aid in a piteous sycophantic manner just like today. Are you sharing that corn cob? Have a nice day!

Not surprised.

Disappointed.

Also grateful.

Most of all fuck the steM.

Ol’ Jimmy Corn Cob started it all by himsellf. He only has himself to blame. Pretty easy to check unless he’s deleted his posts.

This is how I will “process” this move next season. Similar to what I did with Correa/Peña. I suspect Verlander will regress to the mean a bit, like most who leave the Astros do. I also suspect that whoever plays that #1 role will be a 200+IP, low ERA pitcher and may even perform better than JV next year. It’ll be something fun/interesting to watch.

So the third year for Verlander if it vests will pay him 35 million. So that is essentially a three-year deal at 121 million. No word yet on what he has to do to lock in the third year.

Yep – The voice of calm, collected reason right there. You are beginning to become irritating.

I guess you lacked the strength and confidence not to open your whiney mouth in response.

Unsure about “risk”: SAC made billions playing with the house’s money, the Fed buying S&P futures whenever the market dipped, the pains public and the gains private. See “carried interest.” This level of dollars is nothing to him, really.

It’s a two-year deal for $121M as there are no incentives for Verlander to even work out the third year.

He’s still using a roster spot (unless his arm falls off). The risk is that he sucks and they have to keep trotting him out there.

Or they negotiate a buyout and JV retires.

I can almost guarantee you JV will be a better pitcher than whomever is their “#6 starter,” the only comparison that matters if money does not.

The Mets’ problem has been they don’t hit the ball. They can produce in bunches and the stats can deceive, but the sum is less than the parts, the opposite of the Astros who won the World Series with no fewer than 3 “automatic outs” at the bottom of the order.

We carried JV in the playoffs this year and we made it to the World Series in 2021 without JV. I’m excited to see what Brown can do in a full season. I would like to see us use that JV money to lock up people like Tucker, Framber and Javier.

I think this is a better use than multiple FAs.

2022
Framber 31 gs
JV 28 gs
Garcia 28 gs
Urquidy 28 gs
Javier 25 gs
Odorizzi 12 gs
McCullers 8 gs
Brown 2 gs

Have to make up 40 gs

Javier 25 to 30
McCullers 8 to 23
Brown 2 to 22

Framber, Garcia, Urquidy stay at 22 numbers

This is hilarious to me. His family had absolutely nothing to do with this.

Thats my point.

I could understand it if this was life changing money and he was making the decision for his family’s future.

Can never have enough pitching. The difference in our pitching depth in this world series vs other years where we cobbled together a bullpen to get through spoke volumes. Verlander, like Cole, was of mutual benefit to both parties.

Now bring on Brown, and fill in the remaining position gaps

Will Houston get in the Rodon sweepstakes?

I’m curious to know how you conclude that Crane not just being stupid with his money with respect to Correa translates to his being unreasonable and dishonest.
