The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

You know it does takes a strength and confidence to not open your whiney mouth when something offends your delicate sensibilities. It is nearly always better for your soul to stay quiet. It is clear you do not possess that kind of strength.

Relax. He’s just saving his tact in case he needs it when he gets old.

This is real keyboard warrior shit. If you told someone face to face to take a corn cob out of their ass, “fuck you” would be the mildest reaction you could expect.

Can’t we all just get along?

Verlander signed with the Mets. A two-year deal with a vesting opiton for a third year. Price is $43M/year.

Yep…here’s the source. A pretty solid one.

Unfuckingreal.

…and, he’ll watch from the sidelines as the Astros maraud through another postseason next year.

Good luck getting to 300 anytime soon, JV. Thanks for the memories, though.

Why? I’ll check to see how you react when someone gets in your face like that.

Can’t blame Crane. I’m not doing $43m/year either.

Nope. I can’t blame JV either really. That’s a lot of money, and if there is a vesting option, and it’s similar to the one he had with Stros last year, then it’s at least semi-probable this turns into a 3 year deal.

I’d normally be fucked up about this (see Springer/Correa), but knock on wood, the team is in a pretty good spot regardless.

I am disappointed for the Astros, of course, but mostly I am disappointed in Verlander. Money and ego trumped any feeling he may have had for his time in Houston. I absolutely do not blame Crane if his offered price was lower than $40M. He probably thought JV’s sense of loyalty was stronger than it was. So did I.

PS to BillyD: I did not get fucked about any of them. Mercenaries for sale to the highest bidder, all.

We were going to have to move on from JV soon one way or another, so it might as well be now, I guess. We’re still in good shape if McCullers stays healthy. Just may need to win a few more games by outgunning teams than shutting them down.

I will never begrudge someone getting as much money as they can. The only thing that disappoints me is that now JV will surely go into the HOF with a Tigers hat. I think he needed another couple of really good Astro years to change that

Yes. The Astros are stacked at starting pitching but are unlikely to replace 2022 Verlander’s innings with a sub .200 ERA. It would be also be unlikely with 2023 Verlander, so the difference is yet unknown.

Once DeGrom was gone, Mets just opened the bank vault for JV.

I don’t have animosity toward either JV or Crane.

Both did what they thought was best for themselves.

I understand JV wanting the opportunity to get the 3rd year. Its better than trying to get a contract at age 42 when he’s still 2 seasons away from 300.

If it had been a flat 2 year deal then screw him. He would be a mercenary signing for money that did not impact his family or life.

Kudos to Crane for making a reasonable honest effirt ( by all accounts) unlike with Correa or Springer but sticking to his guns.

I’m excited to see who the Astros bring in for the title defense 2023.

Well, that frees up room for some other additions. There are other good SP on the market if the Astros want to add depth. Would make it easier to part with Garcia, Urquidy or whoever in a trade for a bat.

It’s a huge risk for NYM. I think we all kind of automatically assume that he’ll repeat last year’s performance, but that’s far from given. We’ll see.

I guess we will see what Hunter Brown can do. Very disappointed in Verlander.

Also, I would absolutely love for Houston to face him in the World Series. We all know how well JV performs in those.
