The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

Fort Worth is my 2nd favorite city in Texas after Austin. I’m surprised, though, that you label the Rangers as a Dallas team. When I lived in Dallas, and its’s suburbs, I didn’t find any great interest in the Rangers compared to the Cowboys and Mavs.

That has been my experience too. The only time I’ve seen Ranger fans is when I’ve gone to a game at the ballpark there. All the other team sports – football, basketball, and hockey, have won a championship. and you tend to see them represented more. Ft Worth is a nice town, nice vibe. I was born there. I have good friends and relatives that live in Dallas and there are multiple nice entertainment and dining options there but the general vibe is off-putting to me. It’s always gonna be the town where they shoot presidents, and then shoot people who shoot presidents.

Holy crap. This so wrong. I have no love for Dallas, but this is so wrong.

How many other towns can make that claim?

I’m kidding. It’s a joke. However, I didn’t expect you to find it funny.

You thought that was funny???

You idea of a “joke” is far different from mine. Do you pull wings off of butterflies, then laugh and say “just kidding?”

Yes, it is.

Hell no, I don’t. Why would you even think that? I’m a nice person, maybe one with a sick sense of humor, but as I said before, I’m not a monster.

The DFW sports fan has plenty of options and each team has plenty of fans who care little to nothing for the other sports. The fan bases swell if there is success (playoff hockey is awesome, even to the uninitiated). The Cowboys of course are fairly immune to those ups/downs.

One common theme for DFW natives is a strong dislike of anything to do with Houston. If George Washington was from Houston they’d burn all their dollar bills.

I first learned of this two-way phenomenon in college (I grew up in the Golden Triangle and pretty much pulled for any team from Texas).

As for Rangers fans in particular there is a deep seated ‘this team is hopeless’ mentality. If you’re interested check out Seasons in Hell by Mike Shropshire.

And there’s definitely a Tarrant county skew to the demographic now. Don’t know how it was in the 80s.

I think that’s a Dallas thing more than a Ft Worth thing. Many in Ft Worth have always had a bit of resentment of Dallas for overshadowing everything in the Metroplex.

Wasn’t suggesting they were on the same level as the Cowboys or Mavericks. And my info is dated- I haven’t spent meaningful family time in the Metroplex in several years.

Lots of talk about Verlander and the steM being “close” to an agreement on a contract.

Crackpots can be anywhere and there is so much “stuff” floating out there about the JFK deal that I don’t know what to believe. BTW, I knew a man, now deceased, but reputable that was standing on the grassy knoll that day and swore to his dying days that he heard shots from behind him. He was even featured in some JFK documentaries about JFK’s death. Dallas now has too many non-Texans to feel like Texas to me. Ft Worth still feels like Texas to me. At least it did when I was last there ten years ago.

Ft. Worth knows they have the better end of the deal.

Well, when you are 2/3rds of the total that will happen.

BS to that man.

I feel as you do. I don’t know what to believe either.

Crane has always been very fair financially with stars but always willing to let guys sign elsewhere who tried to round-up twice. Cole, Correa, … It sounds like the Pirates have been very fair with Reynolds who comes off as a pussy and I doubt the Astros have any interest there.

To be fair, Reynolds plays for the Pirates. They’ve lost 90 plus games the last four years, haven’t won the division in his lifetime. His unhappiness may not be with his salary.

Well, that would blow the red herring that Kate wants to be in California near family.

Go fuck yourself. Ignore me, and I will not irritate you. In case you did not understand, fuck you.
