Starting another one, are you?
Go sign with the damn Yankees with that shit.
Anybody have any idea why Astros would be talking to Corey Kluber?
- thats the first thing I read this morning !! ?
So, I have to back track on what I said about Bagwell yesterday. He was on MLB Roundtrip last night with Mike Stanton and was asked about his comments regarding analytics. He chuckled and said his comments were taken out of context by a reporter looking to make a name for himself. Now, I’m paraphrasing here, but he basically said that his comments were not about the Astros use of analytics but about MLB’s use of analytics as a whole. He basically said the reporter framed the comments as though they were about the Astros. He said it would be pretty dumb of him to criticize the organization when they just won the World Series.
I felt a lot better about the Astros and his involvement after that interview.
Had to go back and look, and the reporter in question is naturally JdJO
But he’s already made a name for himself. Although I can understand why he might not like that name.
I am sure Bagwell is so relieved.
He should be. I wield a lot of power behind the scenes.
Seriously though, I said something on this forum that I felt I should correct.
Ha! I tip my cap to your power!
Only teasing you, of course.
For those with Sirius XM, you’ll want to catch today’s episode of Power Alley when they post it for replay. The guest was Will Harris and there was a fantastic deep dive into what made/makes the Astros special. I didn’t get to hear all of it but it was lengthy. He said that the biggest thing that the Astros did for pitchers is identify their what they are elite at and really push them to focus on that (and ditch stuff that isn’t). He talked about how much confidence that gave him. Talked about the importance of McCann and later Maldonado in executing that.
Context matters!
That was the key to Charlie Morton: “yeah, you throw five pitches, but three of them suck. From now on you throw the 4-seamer up, the curveball down. That’s it”
I would like to see McCann and Maldy one day in the Astros Hall of Fame or whatever they call it.
Catchers are often overlooked by those that make these decisions.
Funny thing written on other message board about Keith Law
I have asked him and he claims he doesn’t hate the Astros and points to the fact that the Astros offered him a front office job when Crane bought the team. The reality though is that he seldom says anything about the Astros, and 75% of the time when he does it is negative. For example he was talking about the best teams the last 5-6 years and also about the best organizations at developing players and he mentioned the Dodgers and Rays and Yankees and didn’t mention the Astros. I texted him later asking how he could objectively leave the Astros off and he said it was not on purpose.
Another time he went off recently about how the World Series doesn’t mean as much as fans think, and winning the WS doesn’t mean that the winner was the best team or is remembered as the best team. I texted and asked him why he didn’t say that is 2019 or 2021 and he didn’t text me back for nearly two days and told me to drop it.
Dropping Keith Law seems like a brilliant plan.
Eflin to Tampa for 3yrs and $40 million. Seems out of character for Tampa.
While it would seem the Astros would need a left handed hitter, perhaps and outfielder, more than Contreras, I got to wondering this evening if the interest in Contreras is actually more about 2024 and beyond. This coming year is the final contract year for Maldonado and he will be 37 at season’s end. Contreras could be the starter in 2024.
I really hope you are wrong. Or at least half wrong. I want Korey Lee to grow into the starter’s role by 2025 at the latest, hopefully with a transition in 2024.
From what I have read, Jim Crane really likes Contreras.
He also wants to add depth to the lineup and C, CF, and LF/DH are the only positions open.
He does not like the outside CF options any better than the in house ones.
People in the organization are saying Contreras will be able to play some LF and will be even better at catcher if he can catch less.
I would not be surprised if he is signed very early in winter meetings.
I am very pessimistic of signing JV. It sounds like a 3rd year is his priority more than any other factor - like where he plays.
I am still hoping though. Maybe JVs agent is just playing the game to get as much as possible from Houston.
