The Void: 2022-23 Offseason

What are the chances that JV ends up as Nolan Ryan all over again?

At least the team should still be good

But Ryan only ever pitched against the Astros as a Met. JV will likely start against them if he leaves.

In what way? Ryan’s owner did not try to keep him; Crane is trying hard.

First of all I hope he returns and it doesn’t matter.

But if JV leaves it will be because another team was willing to give jim something the Astros weren’t ( in my opinion)

Crane and the Astros will be able to say they tried unlike McMullen(? if I remember right) but JV will still be in another uniform

And if he pitches well for 3+ years then as a fan I will think “What if. . .” And compare him to Ryan.

I will be interested to see if another team will give JV 40+ million/year for three years. If Crane will not, I will not blame him.

Lets hope neither of us need to worry about it.

I would not blame Crane for not making that commitment and I would not blame JV for accepting that offer.

Just the fan in me would be sad.

He could get $35 million/year for three years today and stay in Houston, apparently. I will not be sad if he turns that down and leaves. He’ll just be one more mercenary chasing obscene amounts of money with no thoughts of loyalty to an organization and team with which he had his greatest success and which was good to him when he could not play. I’ll be disappointed in him but not sad.

Hard to imagine a better situation for him than staying in Houston. We give him the best shot at getting closer to 300 wins and winning championships.

This is a new idea to you?

Are you familiar with the internet?

Vaguely. Most of the bad habits there are absent here, though.

Crane saying he was rushed when selecting Click and will “take his time on it this time” continues the relentless bitch-slapping. These guys could not even ride an elevator together right now.

I get the feeling Click won’t be using Crane as a reference.

Well, this is funny.

This might not end well.

After big dollars. Disappointing.

“I haven’t spoken to him since the last time I spoke to him” is a pretty anodyne statement.

Had to look up anodyne

Look it up with aplomb.

I guess you’re not an Uncle Tupelo fan.

“I haven’t spoken to Jim since last time we spoke”. I read that as the “we” being Verlander and whomever he was talking to at the time, not Verlander and Crane. But perhaps he was being anodyne as well.
