If I may interrupt these witticisms I have read that the AT&T Sports Net channels are in some dire straits.
The letter proposes that AT&T SportsNet transfer ownership of the networks and programming rights to the teams for no purchase price consideration beyond a release by the teams of any future claims against the networks.
Bankruptcy is also on the table, the letter said. “Unless we can reach a deal to transfer ownership of the network (and the attendant rights)” by March 31, “our only realistic option is to file for chapter 7 liquidation,” the letter to the respective teams said.
I believe tomorrows Astro spring game is scheduled on the AT&T network at this time.
Bally Sports already is in bankruptcy I believe.
The regional sports bubble burst a while ago.
Interesting to see how MLB responds. I’m sure that’s why the committee looking into the streaming options was formed.
When I heard his comments it raised my eyebrows a bit. Never heard him make that kind of critical statement before which in my opinion, could only be directed at Crane as he’s the one controlling the GM hire and the pace at which it was done. Dusty may not have meant it that way, but that’s sure the way I took it.
Who’s to know–maybe Crane weighed signing a starter or waiting to see how the first half goes and picking up a pitcher before the trade deadline if things were not working out. Or, he was distracted watching “Fake or Fortune” episodes and forgot.
My wife has been trying to get rid of DirectTV for a few years. The only reason we have kept it is for my
Astro games. Oh, well.
If Dusty was upset, he should have went directly to Crane and kept it away from the media.
If they need a big-time starter in June/July, I bet the Stros can get one. I’m just not worried yet.
From everything I’ve seen and heard about our new GM, I’ll trust him.
I also completely trust Brown.
Feels like Dusty’s mantra about the yin and yang of starters to relievers and the success we had last year was a topic of conversation in the loss of Verlander and the uncertainty around health/youth. And Dusty wanted to reiterate this at the beginning as a central theme to why he thinks we were successful.
With the big fella still getting treatment for his hand, he probably is looking at Whitley and thinking to himself (would have rather had an inning eater) than a lefty reliever.
We haven’t even had the first formal pitch of ST yet, and seems like drama at every turn (Yordan, Drehlich BS, LMcJr, and Pitching depth). It is how it is when you’re the World Champs!!!
5 yard penalty for illegal use of tense.
Perhaps If Crane was thinking of going after an innings eater he may have looked at Houston’s current staff versus the market. Not sure there would be a better inniings eater for the value than an Urquidy and others.
They already need Urquidy in the #4 spot, that’s not an extra “innings eater”. What would be ideal is a swing man who could go long in the pen and make a spot start without a roster move.
I never posted it on here, but I had been hoping we would sign Wacha and let him be the 5th starter. At the time I was thinking it, it seemed a little overkill, but now it would have been a great move.
Just for the sake of eating innings, they may not have rated the market options that highly against the AAA guys like JP France or Shawn Dubin or whoever (especially the market options who’d have signed without a clear rotation spot being available).
Martinez is still an option, right?
Oh, thanks for the clarification.
Yes and a good one, imo. I tend to forget him.
I guess it depends on what you can get from LMJ and Brown. If you can rely on those guys, Urquidy is that innings eater, at least in the long term. Those are big ifs though, I know.
Brown just said in the booth “why isn’t Blanco a starter?”
