The New CBA

Apparently Dick Durbin cracked a few skulls.

Some key points on the new deal:

Spring Training mandatory report date of Sunday, March 13
ST games begin March 17
Opening Day April 7
Full 162-game schedule
Postseason expanded to 12 teams
Designated hitter for all!

I’m sure there will be details of the nuts and bolts, but those are what I saw that affect things in the short term.

If true, most of that sounds good – or at least better than some of the options considered. 12 teams is about the least we could have hoped for, and while I still dislike the DH, I dislike having it in one league only even more.

Somewhat concerned about the short ST and the extended fall/winter schedule. I guess that is better than having a shortened season, though.

I hate November baseball as much as the next guy, but we’re only delayed a week, so I don’t see it a big deal. I have no concerns whatsoever about a shorter ST.

I don’t mind November beisbol as long as it’s the Houston Astros baseball club playing in said month.

Bigger bases and no shift still a thing?

Pitch clock?

I’m no expert but it looks like the owners moved significantly to finish that.

Yeah, the agreement seems pretty reasonable to me.

One good change: teams are now limited to (I think) 5 times bringing a player up and down before exposing him to waivers. Some teams, LAD among them, were getting horrible about this.

5 times total or per-year?

Surely not the Dodgers. They’re paragons of virtue!

The Astros probably put the Dojers up to it.

I think it’s per year but I could easily be wrong. Waiting for the full release.

Espn says per year, I just saw
