No one going to point out that the team would have a strong identity?
I took summer school PE in high school (to clear space in my schedule for the electives I wanted – yeah, I was that kid). We played some version of kickball almost every day, but they often played with the rules in weird ways like this. One day would be normal. The next, you had to run the bases backwards (3rd, 2nd, 1st, home). One version, you had to circle the bases twice to score a run (1st, 2nd, 3rd, then home and back to 1st on one play, then 2nd, 3rd, home) – but they had extra-big bases, so that you didn’t have to leave the bag when the ball was kicked, if you didn’t want to – you could have as many runners on a base at a time as you wanted.
It did make it a little bit more interesting – at least, as interesting as summer school PE kickball can get.
Or banning pitchers from having more than 1 pitch.
There you go! Everybody should have to throw all fastballs, all the time. That would probably improve the umpiring, too.
I so agree with this! It’s infuriating for me to watch Kyle Tucker at the plate. Grab dirt, rub your hands, guess I’ll get in the box now, pitch is made, repeat all of the above. Every fucking time!!! It’s bullshit! Same with Altuve. Tighten velcro on batting gloves multiple times, pitch made, step out of box and repeat. WTF?!?!
One foot out of the box to get a sign, no playing with gloves, dirt, crotch, helmet or bat. You’ve got five seconds to get your sign and get back in the box. Pitch is coming.
Nomar Garciaparra must have been one of your favorite players to watch.
And Sean Casey. Fuck that guy.
Oof. Tough, but fair.
Well, look on the bright side: fewer snow-outs!
Negotiations continue, but they’ve agreed to kick the can down the road on at least one issue:
A fine sentiment, but if the owners simply say “OK, let’s play ball”, the players are going to strike. Labor disputes are rarely solved by one side saying “we give up”.
Exactly. Congress can exert some level of pressure with the antitrust exemption, but the owners would happily continue under the expired CBA. The problem is, it’s expired and so all provisions are gone - luxury tax, arbitration, you name it.
We have a deal!!!
So, what happened?
Baseball exists again
