Fun Fact: Trump has requested that the court accept cash in lieu of a bond in the E. Jean Carroll case.
Why is this fun? Well, because he has filed an appeal to the verdict, he is required to post a bond covering the sum of the judgement against him. The fact that he has petitioned the court to accept cash instead means that he could not get a bond.
So as part of the finding out phase of fucking around with your creditors, Trump has had to pony up $5 million in cash and hope that the court will accept this rather than a bond.
Trump has actually offered $5.5 million in cash. I am guessing that the surety companies were requiring Trump post $5 million in cash with them, and then charging a premium greater than 10% for their services (I have seen this happen in the past to clients with shaky finances). I am interested to see the court’s reaction.

A bond is based on cash that state holds. Unless a judge puts further additions to bond. Just money in hand for state.
