Huge eruption on Italy’s Mt. Etna leaves tourists fleeing volcano | CNN
So we now have a volcano eruption deficit with Italy this year. Trump will not be happy.
And that’s huge “ERUPTION”, Limey.

Oh don’t worry, “eruption” has plenty lewd potential on its own.
It’s also a fantastic song by Van Halen.
Yeah but only during the daytime.
Japan crashes on the moon again, but a bit slower this time.
It’s really hard to land on celestial objects. The movie “Alien” was praised for showing this when pretty much every other movie to date (and since) shows this as a “walk in the park”.
One of the problems with putting people on Mars, for example, is because it has twice the gravity of the moon but not enough atmosphere to help with slowing down. Unmanned landers have used various methods of getting down to the surface, all of which would kill any human occupants and all of which are unsuitable for a craft robust enough to have human occupants.
For anyone that thinks the proposed “Golden Dome” will be a reliable defensive shield for the US, watch this video through a few times. What you are seeing is three relatively clumsy Iranian ballistic missiles at the terminal phase approaching Tel Aviv. And, many Iron Dome surface-to-air missiles deploying to try to intercept. The ballistic units are on a set, unchanging trajectory down from sub-orbital space although moving very, very fast. The interceptors know they are there, see them and launch in plenty of time but struggle to calculate and re-calculate intercept trajectories, hitting only one of the three incoming targets.
It’s a fascinating clip to watch on repeat a few times.
The cynic in me thinks the “Golden Dome” is expected to be a reliable cash cow more than a reliable defense.
Naturally, Trump wants to build one covering North America, at the low, low price of several trillion dollars
Wouldn’t it be cheaper simply to stop pissing people off?

What word would you use? In a thread about science and engineering?
And what does that (intentionally?) mislabeled video from last year add to the discussion about “Star Wars” technology?
Had no idea that was a refried video, saw it on another forum earlier. Totally my bad.
“fascinating” is just not a word I’d use while watching people get killed, but I understand the purpose of this thread and will comment no further
The actual definition of fascinate is: the state of feeling an intense interest in something. It implies nothing about morality or your personal state of being regarding this current conflict that we all hope doesn’t escalate. I’m “fascinated” by WWII history and documentaries. That has zero to do with my “feelings” of the loss of life in that conflict. I’m “fascinated” by Nazi history not because I like it, but because we all really need to learn from it (we obviously haven’t). This is an easily misunderstood word in the English language.
We’re getting to the point where SpaceX doesn’t qualify for this thread.
The video in the link is both spectacular and a spectacular metaphor.
Here’s a slo-mo version that shows the secondary explosion which is the tank farm around the launchpad cooking off.
Yes, I did mean to type “tank farm around the launchpad”.
A friend of mine from Lockheed Martin says everyone in his group already has this as their screen wallpapers:
Glad I got to see Boca Chica a couple of times before it got turned into a toxic hellscape
That video needs a Philip Glass soundtrack
They’re missing out on a serious revenue stream if they aren’t trying to sell Michael Bay exclusive launch filming rights to use in his movies.
An F-35B from the RAF had to divert to a Southern Indian airport since it could not make it back to the HMS Prince of Wales due to weather (mechanical issue) after a sortie in the Indian Ocean. It’s being safely guarded round-the-clock by RAF crew.
The local Tourism Board did not miss the opportunity. Ha.
