But other than that, Mrs Lincoln…
…and they want to have authority to shut down Boca Chica and neighboring beaches at will
If a rocket blows up in the woods and there’s no one there to see it…
Update on the AI front. A few months ago, I heard a briefing from a panel of data scientist, who were noticing agentic behaviors by chatbot - large language model dyads such as music-generating AI teaching itself complex math to better be able to generate music.
Now this; AI that will try to blackmail engineers that are considering shutting it down in favor of another model. Zoom to 4.1.1.2 for the specifics.
Everyone has a phase when they’re really into Kraftwerk.
Seriously: if we create Skynet it will kill us all. Its base of knowledge is all of human history and existence, so how could it decide any other way?
Yikes!
“Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer.”
The case for milk and cheese.
I’m kidding; you shouldn’t be consuming anywhere near as much of that shit as you do.
Yeah, but it’s delicious
I shouldn’t eat bluefin tuna either
The big difference is that bluefin tuna is not being pushed on us from before we can even read.
I don’t care what’s been pushed on who, I just know it’s endangered and we’re running out of it.
Ahi (yellowfin) is perfectly acceptable.
Chinese put kill switches in solar panels.

WTF? Maybe that’s why the Legislature wants to mandate renewable sources to pay for backup energy (gas/coal) at night and/or when the wind isn’t blowing?
That article seems suspicious to me
How so? Perhaps this is less suspicious.
Yeah, that’s less suspicious. It’s just based on my feel.
I’m generally suspicious anyway, and have to balance competing narratives/questions: “why would a company/country risk complete collapse of reputation and business” vs “of course the Chinese would like to have the ability to damage our infrastructure.”
I think we might need a whole new thread for SpaceX stuff called “Shit Science and Engineering”.
I mean, they knew the Sun was there…right?
This is barely news and that headline is barely above the clickbait line. It is well understood that low earth orbit satellites are especially susceptible to increased solar activity. The solar activity actually makes the atmosphere swell, increasing friction on orbiting materials. That “10 day earlier” nonsense is based on a consistent solar output, which anyone with a brain knows is not how the solar/astrophysics works. These variances are a key driver in the overall (very, very good) system design. Launch thousands of low-cost disposable devices and refresh them as they degrade. It’s an ingenious design that is working 1) as designed and 2) very well. The NASA study was commissioned to confirm the commonly understood hypothesis and to quantify the effects with data. It just moved the needle right on the theorem–>hypothesis–>proof spectrum.
