Eruption, not the Van Halen kind, on the horizon.

‘Explosive eruption’ now likely on Alaska volcano Mount Spurr, scientists say

Red hot ash and molten lava will be a couple of US exports that Canada will not be able to avoid.

Not sure where else to put this but I just took the plunge on vertical tabs in Firefox and I’m not sure I can go back. The tabs are larger so you have a bigger target to hit with your mouse and more text of the page title to read. The sidebar does take up more real estate but widescreen displays can easily take the girth.

Are we not doing ‘phrasing!’ anymore?

As good a thread as any:

What do yall use to clean your tv/computer screens?

I’m not kidding.

I just wipe it with a microfiber towel. If it needs more than that because I threw beer at the screen yelling at Joe Espada or Bobby Slowik, I use a little distilled water with a drop of dish soap (that’s “washing up liquid” for Limey). Kind of what I use to clean records.

You could try what they do at my work: wring out a rag in a wheelbarrow used to mix concrete then go to town.

How are we feeling about the return of the dire wolf?

AI-generated answer. Please verify critical facts.

Cleaning cum stains from a computer screen requires gentle care to avoid damaging the screen. Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe the screen, as paper products can cause scratching on the fine material of the monitor. If the stain is stubborn, you can dampen the microfiber cloth with water or a small amount of white vinegar to help remove the stain. Avoid using rubbing alcohol or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the screen. Always consult the manufacturer’s guidelines for cleaning your specific device.

Night putting with the dean’s daughter.

I’m not kidding: don’t do this. On a glossy screen (like most touch displays) a household cleaner like Windex could damage or remove the coatings on the outside of the panel. A matte/antiglare screen could definitely get completely fucked up. Just use a soft cloth dampened with water (or, at most, diluted isopropyl alcohol).

At my college internship my officemate’s Friday afternoon ritual was to clean his CRT monitor with Windex. When he got a new computer and LCD monitor he continued this ritual… precisely once, until he showed up Monday morning to find his glorious new flat panel screen completely clouded over.

Yeah, I already knew enough to know not to do that. Had the blinds open at just the right time yesterday to really see how dirty it is and was just wondering if yall had any out of the ordinary methods.

My screen isn’t a touch screen (it’s famously a cinemascope screen), does that make a difference?

One of my cats has perpetual sinus issues and also likes to sleep on my desk. So my screen goes through a cycle of getting covered in cat snot and getting cleaned with Windex. So far, no damage is visible from either, but I need something with some cleaning power to get that shit off the screen.

Fun fact: my cat doesn’t only sneeze on the screen. fml

Cat snot is a new euphemism. “Sorry baby…my cat had to sneeze.”

My desk looks like the inside of a teenaged boy’s special sock. I am not embarrassed. In fact, I’d be flattered that people would think I can still get it that far.
