Punishments are official

That’s funny. I wonder if any of their players will apologize for their holier than thou bullshit.

None of this is going anywhere. The talking heads are already saying “that was a different time way back then…it’s over…move on, nothing to see here” and “the Astros were punished because they didn’t stop after 2017 when everyone else did”. And people will move on and continue to bash the Astros. This is why nothing the Astros did in the sign stealing bothers me in the least. Not even a little bit. My only gripe is they handed over their collective balls and fucked A.J. Hinch while doing so. That was incredibly disappointing, though knowing Crane should not have been a surprise.

Wow.

I do not think Rosenthal will let this die. He has said all along the Astros were not the only team doing this.

This.

Best tweet I saw today:
“There’s cheating in sports? Someone fetch my fainting couch.”

(sorry I couldn’t find it to link directly)

They can start with 2009. I counted it up a few months ago. Something like 8 players on that team later suspended for PED use during that season.

That personal use, not authorized by the team. Not the same. They apparently still reign superior.

Don’t forget, it was more than one player who came from the Yankees in 17 - Beltran and McCann.

From the judge’s order today staying disclosure of the Yankee/MLB letter: “One might be tempted to conclude that there is no justification for keeping the letter sealed. Nevertheless, the court stayed its order so that the Yankees and the MLB defendants could present to the Court of Appeals their contention that the letter should continue to be suppressed, in derogation of the public’s right to know.”

Frankly, I don’t think the public should be subjected to the kind of pornography that must be included in that letter.

The Yankee “letter” was supposed to be unsealed and made public on June 19th. Did I miss something?

The NYY and MLB appealed, which kept it sealed. I guess you must have missed that.

Yes, I did. Thanks.

MLB and Yankees are arguing that the letter will do damage to their reputation while at the same time arguing that everything important in the letter is public already so there’s no need to release it. The judge is not pleased. Stayed until appeal, probably in July or August.

That is the “my dog has never bitten anyone/I do not have a dog” argument.

Would not surprise me if MLB sweeps this under the rug somehow. We can’t have the Yankees looking bad.

More and more it just seems that baseball (or at least MLB) is looking bad. I will probably pay attention if/when they start playing, but I don’t really want to.

I heard the alternative arguments story from Racehorse Haynes

Yes. I remember reading that Haynes quote when reading Gary Cartwright’s excellent book about the Cullen Davis murder trail.
