Punishments are official

One of my closest law school friends worked on the Cullen Davis defense team during the summer because a relative was local counsel in Amarillo (?) working with Haynes. Sometime later I heard Haynes, at a seminar maybe, talking about the case, and he told the alternative arguments story,

Another good Texas lawyer book featuring Racehorse is Run Brother Run, by Houston attorney David Berg who was a Haynes protege. It’s primarily about the murder of Berg’s brother, ostensibly by Woody Harrelson’s father (a hitman who later assassinated a federal judge in San Antonio). Percy Foreman represented the accused murder. There is much comparing and contrasting between Foreman and Haynes’ styles. It’s also a good window into Houston society and legal community at large in the 1970s.

I’m currently reading (re-reading after 40 years) Blood and Money about the Ft. Worth murder of socialite Joan Robinson Hill. Outstanding book. One of my long-time friends’ parents were at the infamous dinner party and he a partner of the protagonist.

One of Mrs. Hawk’s favorite books. And she was murdered in Houston, not Ft. Worth.

When we were looking to move back into town we looked at the house that the Hill’s lived in on Kirby. Didn’t look like it had been updated since he was shot in the doorway, so it wasn’t for us.

I remember you telling me that story. It was like a time capsule…in a very creepy sort of way, IIRC.

Of course it was Houston. Total brain fart on my part.

Tommy Thompson was another good Texas writer. The book he wrote about doctors DeBakey and Cooley was a good read. Also wrote Blood and Money.

Haynes’ ex long time law partner is a friend of mine. Handled high-dollar divorces, almost always on the man’s side.

Speaking of idiots, Jansen says LAD are the “true” 2017 champs.

Anytime someone says shit like that all it makes me think is they are big sign stealers also.

I’m a bit confused. Where was game 2 played? In what manner was it lost? Where was game 7 played? In what manner was it lost?

I suppose they’re going to tell us that the Astros had a CF camera setup in LA, too.

Reminds me of “The Sting”: “What was I supposed to do - call him for cheating better than me, in front of the others?”

I have never read any statement, one way or the other, about the trash can in Game Five. Has there been any mention of it?

Not that I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how any human could have heard it.

The Dodgers absolutely were doing it, too. The Brewers accused them of stealing signs during the 2018 NLCS, and the Mets accused them of the same thing last year. The difference is they are one of MLB’s Golden Geese, and they didn’t have a rat in their clubhouse like Mike Fiers.

Don’t you understand? They wouldn’t have started stealing signs in the first place if the big bad Astros hadn’t stolen signs against them the previous year.

You could not have heard a trash can as loud as it was.

The Astros players have certainly denied using the trash can (or variety) during the WS. Correa gave a very detailed breakdown of how they couldn’t have been using the sign stealing scheme at key points in the game.

Tell Jansen he can suck on that big fat Astros ring.
