Since Cristiano Ronaldo left Man Utd, they have played 6 games and won every one of them.

Only Ronaldo could make United sympathetic

Missed it by that much.:rofl::rofl:

The view from the Holmesdale.

For you USMNT fans out there, Cliff Chris Richards made his Premier League debut for Palace tonight, and was excellent.

Really sucked he missed out on the World Cup due to injury, he is one of the younger guys I’m really excited about. Glad to see him get a start.

Palace fans have been confused as to why he hasn’t been getting any time (injury aside). One of our first choice CBs limped off last game, and the coach dragged Tomkins away from Matlock reruns to replace him.

So glad to see Richards get a run out and even more glad to see that he isn’t a waste of money. He impressed against one of the hot teams in the league. Plus, you can’t teach speed and he has that in spades. At one point, he won a foot race against Antony over half the length of the field to snuff out a dangerous fast break.

Fun fact: that’s the first time Rashford has been kept off the score sheet since the World Cup.

Richards’ personal highlight reel. Lots to appreciate here.

He also went stride for stride with Rashford. :racing_car:

The all-but lost art of the reducer.

I used to love putting in tackles like these. So much so that, if I was going to get there too early, I’d slow down to let the attacker think he has a chance of getting the ball first so he’d speed up, and then BOOM! Welcome to South London!

Citeh imploding. You hate to see it.

I was just perusing the Premier League table and I think I speak on behalf of normal people everywhere when I ask who the hell is Brentford?

They have a nice new stadium out towards Heathrow.

Richards is going to be starting for Palace again in the NBC featured game today (11:30am CST).

He’s getting in on the promotional skits too.

A super tiny team that has no business being anywhere near the Premier League. Let me take my Fulham hat off for a minute…

Brentford are an interesting experiment, they are one of the first, maybe the only, to take a true moneyball approach to football. One could say they are the A’s of the EPL. Heavily influenced by analytics, it’s said that Brentford will scout a player for a full year before signing him. They also abandoned having a youth academy in an effort to save money. They have gotten results, though. Brentford are traditionally a bottom half Division 2 or Division 3 team, they went from League 1(level 3) to the Premier League in 6 seasons and finished 13th last year, no mean feat without a filthy rich owner.

If you’re interested, Tifo did a video on Brentfords moneyball approach last year when they were flying high in the Premier League

I’d liken them more to Tampa, since they actually seem to be good at it. Like you say, they’ll scout players for a long time, but they’re willing to let them go for a nice transfer fee when the time comes and then plow that money back into the operation.
