Just saw the highlights, and it was interesting to see that - in the build up to Fulham’s first goal - a Chelsea player tried to stop the game by feigning a head injury. I assume the referee didn’t see it because play went on and Fulham scored.
I completely agree with the rule about stopping the game, but players immediately started cheating by using it to gain an advantage (or stop an opponent’s advantage). Maybe the rule shouldn’t be that the game is stopped immediately. The next head injury that would’ve worsened irrevocably in the space of 30 seconds will be the first.
Well that was Stirling bridge. There was a battle at Stamford Bridge, but a different place between Harold Godwinson and Harald Hardrada right before the invasion by William the Bastard. Maybe you knew all that, but if not now you do.
But don’t let that distract you from the fact Chelsea sucks!
As Doyce said. Of course, from the movie you’d never know that a bridge was involved - nay pivotal - to the Scottish victory at that battle. “Braveheart” is probably the second least factually accurate “based on true events” movie behind only “Fargo”.
It’s always fun to point out that the Scots didn’t erect a statue to William Wallace until after the movie’s success. Because the public barely knew who Wallace was, let alone what he looked like, the statue bears a remarkable resemblance to Mel Gibson. Coincidentally, the statue hates Jews.
I actually did know that. I have a minor in history, specializing in Vikings and the Norman Conquest. The Battle of Stamford Bridge is detailed in the Anglo Saxon Chronicles, and also the Heimskringla, or “Kings Saga”. Most agree that had Stamford Bridge gone differently William may not have been so successful a few weeks later at Hastings.
As for Chelsea sucking, I’ll take your word for it. My ire is consistently directed at those dickcheeses from Manchester, both the City and United varieties.
