No problem. Happy to give you the chance. The first FTC of the year is like the first green buds on the tree.

Looks like Kris Bryant to the Rockies.

I don’t understand the Rockies

Or Kris Bryant for that matter

They’ll trade him in two years, eat a third of his salary, then pay someone else $200M to take them from 71 wins to 74.

Rosenthal says Freddie Freeman close to signing with Dodgers.

That wasn’t really the news I wanted to read when I got up this morning.

In more probably-irrelevant news …

Sticking my head above the wall getting ready to lose it once I have made this post. Is it time for the Astros to follow the Braves lead, move on from Carlos, sign Story and Conforto, and be done with it? I am all about CC but feels like we are being lapped by key competitors.

Sidebar - that Dodger line-up is sick. But it will have to beat DeGrom, Scherzer, Bassit to make it to the WS. Not easily done - particularly if Lindor has a bounce back season.

Uh. What?

All the current news says the Astros are working on a deal with Carlos right now. Why would they punt and move on?

Yeah I mean the Braves moved on to a younger player that is just as good, not an older player who is not as good

Spidey sense thing. Felt like Jim thought he could get in and close. Then the Orioles 10/300 offer gets made.

As far as Story vs Correa - no doubt Correa is better. But if you can get 2 for the price of 1 - Conforto upgrades CF situation - though Tucker would likely have to move over.

I don’t know. Just a thought.

It would appear that the Cubs have moved on from the idea of signing Correa.

I always lie down and take a nap when that happens.

But definitely Cabrera’d.

A sign of respect.

If Jim Crane wants to continue to be a favorite to win the pennant and have a good chance at winning the World Series, he needs to keep the Astros’ elite players. Correa is the best position player on the team, and he’s developed into a team leader/spokesperson on and off the field. He’s the total package.

As a fan, I knew the Astros couldn’t keep both Springer and Correa. However, keeping one is a must. Springer is gone, so Crane better figure out a way to keep Correa.

Totally agree. Normally I’m not crazy about an 8-10 year deal but Correa is just 27. Health is a concern but I don’t believe we are a World Series contender without him. He’s the clear leader of the team and seems to enjoy playing in the big moment. I still don’t think Crane offers him a contract of that length, though. I believe our only hope is a 1 year huge money deal.

Even better, Correa doesn’t even turn 28 until September 22. An eight-year deal essentially takes him through his age 34 season (he would turn 35 right before the postseason). If Correa was two or three years older, I wouldn’t like a contract of that length, but he isn’t.

I just fail to see how Crane can say that he wants to do everything he can to win another World Series and not figure out a way to keep Carlos Correa in Houston. His teammates want him back (Maldy on multiple occasions has tweeted #PaytheMan or tweeted a picture of himself in a shirt with the phrase on it). His coaches want him back. Astros’ fans want him back. Not to mention the team takes a massive step back without him, and there is no comparable SS or CF available in free agency or via trade to make up for the loss.

If Crane was never willing to go 7 or 8 years for Correa, he should have stepped in and got a shorter, big money deal done with Springer before he bolted for Toronto, knowing that 2021 was the end of Correa’s time in Houston.
