He is probably having Bill Barr write up a summary of the warrant

Its hard to believe that the warrant and the affidavit haven’t been leaked by someone.

Speaking of leakers…

Word on the street is that the FBI was looking specifically for President’s Daily Briefs, which contain highly classified intelligence information and sources. That in the wrong hands, they could compromise almost all of the United States’ global intelligence network. It was not a fishing expedition, and it had nothing to do with January 6th, the FBI simply wanted to the documents back to protect the identities and sources of national intelligence information. If they seized evidence of wrongdoing, other than illegally posessing classified information (the President does not have security clearance, and whatever classified privileges he/she does have expires upon leaving office), it was by chance, not by design. I read one ex-FBI official say that it would be impossible to get a warrant for any Joe Schmoe, let alone an ex-President, if they didn’t know the details, which documents they wanted, how many of them and where they were, down to which rooms or closets in which they were stored. This was not done on a whim, nor was it speculative.

It was all supposed to be done quietly and they picked a time when Trump was away deliberately to avoid creating a media circus. And it worked too, they were nearly done, but Trump started bleating about it on social media.

If they thought he wouldn’t find out, they were ignorant. If they thought he wouldn’t start bleating about it, they were stupid.

Of course Trump would know. The point was that it was not the DOJ or FBI who announced this raid to the world; it was Trump. The FBI got there at 9am, and no media outlet reported it until Trump issued his missive at around 6pm.

I’m not sure I’d say it “worked”. It basically solidified GOP support behind Trump. Whatever wafflers were out there, they ain’t waffling any more. It steeled the GOP into Team Trump 2024 even more solidly.

Funny that holding folks accountable can have such negative effects.

It was clearly a false flag operation planned by Trump and his fbi director.

Really? It’s basically just your dyed in the wool Trumpers out there Trumping. Did you miss the deafening sound of crickets when Trump called on his minions to take to the streets to protest this? There were more media outside Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday than there were MAGAs.

Savvy politicians - like Mitch McConnell - have kept their mouths shut because they know that, once the warrant is made public, anyone defending Trump is going to look like an idiot.

Boy I bet they’re gonna feel foolish

Not really, they’re incapable of shame.

I refuse to buy into the narrative that enforcing laws on Trump will make him more powerful. We have years of evidence to the contrary (he lost the last election, FFS), and recently a Fox News poll showed 50% of Republicans wanting someone else to run in 2024.

Hmmmm…

If they actually enforced the laws on him, it would be one thing. I’m just highly skeptical that they actually will, and because they won’t, it will only embolden him and reinforce to his supporters that it was a politically-motivated nothing burger. As I’ve said, if Trump is actually punished in any meaningful way, I’ll eat my words. But I remain unconvinced until then.

The beauty of the “mishandling” of documents crime is that a conviction bars the convicted from holding public office. There are people on both sides of the political divide that want Trump off the board for 2024.

That is where I am at. If they get all the documents back, Trump will plead ignorance (no matter what the evidence shows) and will get away with at worst a reprimand.

From what I hear, I’m not sure it’s settled that he couldn’t run if convicted. I also hope, that in laymen terms, it’s obvious that it’s far more than “mishandling.” It needs to be clear to non Maggots than these were documents that truly had national security import, that he had no fucking business to keep them for himself, and/or he was either using them in a criminal way or allowing others to do so.

Just based on his past, I’d assume that if this POS took these things, and subsequently held onto them, they are valuable to him or others. Furthermore, if they were valuable, there’s probably evidence that he has already tried to squeeze that value out.

I suspect the PDB’s are valuable in that they make it clear his intelligence advisers were genuinely concerned about potential violence on Jan 6 and were advocating for preemptive steps to be taken.
