Immaculate Grid - Spoilers & Boasts

Not my best effort. I thought about Early Wynn and should have trusted my gut. I could not remember whether he ever won the award. Warren Spahn was more popular than I realized, and except for Jim Palmer I drew a complete blank on Baltimore.

“Oh that’s easy, Contreras ‘05.

Shit, really?

Okay, Sale then.

Fuck.”

(My memories of the ‘05 WS have vastly inflated Jose Contreras’ standing)

I took a guess with Buehrle. I should have remembered LaMarr Hoyt.

I got to use Luis Aparicio, whom I’ll always remember because he got traded from the White Sox to the Red Sox while I was visiting my grandmother in Chicago. The trade was immortalized by the headline “After 15 years, Aparicio finally changes Sox”.

Excellent!

I tried Sammy White - first trade I remember. But he retired rather than report, so it didn’t count.

Got sneak in a Bud Norris this round, Braves/Orioles 0.2%

I had Ruth on my grid for the 20 game winner for the Red Sox.

Unit works for a surprising number of squares today.

As does Max Scherzer

I followed Randy Bass’ career back when he was always a promise unfulfilled. He hit over 200 homers in both MiLB and in Japan. 9 in MLB after playing for 5 teams over 6 years. 0.04%

I hadn’t realized, until today, that Steve Finley played for every NL West team.

None of whom I realized played for the Cubs. Jeez.

That was the easiest for me. Name popped into my head immediately.

One of them was a forehead slapper for me.

After looking some stuff up, I’m wonder how in the hell Kirby Puckett is a HOFer.

I think at the time there was a lot of sympathy for his career ending medical issues and they extrapolated what his career was into what it might have been if he were to have played 20 years.

The 3,000 hits guys were pretty easy. There aren’t that many of them.

I’m sure World Series success played into it.

There was some bullet point about right handed BA for a batting champion too iirc.
