Austin’s Statcast curveball spin rate shows a lot of promise!

This looks like exactly the kind of diamond-in-the-rough find we were waiting for. Time will tell, but this seems consistent with past moves that have worked. out very well.

I thought the same. But I also thought, surely all of the other 29 clubs have picked up on this spin-rate thing.

Jedi mind tricks.

If not all 29, certainly the Rays.

Second promising pitcher the Rays have traded away in the last two days. I guess they think their window is now and they’re going for it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Stevenson and/or Battenfield gets bundled up as part of yet another deal for the Rays.

I’m interested to see what Strom and company do with him, but everyone should set their Pruitt expectation gauges more toward Miley and less toward Morton (or Cole) as far as role is concerned.

Luhnow said he wants one more arm.

My expectations are way below Miley, maybe not even a starter, but glad they are getting some help.

Nice.

Meanwhile, Springer and the Astros are pretty far apart…

Mookie Betts got $27 million. No way the Astros win this if it goes to a hearing.

It looks like we would be trying to lock springer up long term instead of taking him to a hearing over his 2020 salary.

Springer’s long term deal was the biggest action item I expected the Astros to check off this offseason. Maybe they’re waiting until spring (e.g. Altuve, Bregman) but being $5 million apart for arbitration can’t help the process.

I thought the same.

$3M and $8M

$17.5M and $22.5M

Both are $5M apart, but they’re not the same.

The FO has been consistent in not letting arbitration get contentious.

I will feel better if/when the extension is signed but Springer’s arb case doesn’t bother me.
