He’s fucking shameless!
My view on the offseason if anyone is interested:
About 20 years ago I was in St. Louis on a Sunday evening in the summertime driving to Chicago with my family to visit a friend. I had picked out an Italian restaurant on The Hill for us to have dinner. The Cards had had a home game that day and we pulled up to the restaurant’s curbside valet stand when my wife pointed at the car ahead of us at the curb and a man got out with a Cards polo shirt on and headed for the restaurant leaving his Cadillac running. I was looking at him as my wife said “give the keys to him”. I said why would I give the keys to him?..she said he was the valet right? I said “no, that’s Tony LaRussa, the mgr. of the St. Louis Cardinals.” We ended up sitting next to him and his party at dinnertime. That story is still good for an anecdotal laugh when we see him on t.v.
Cunetto’s?
Giovanni’s .
TLR: “Don’t you know who I am?”
Cop: “Of course I do. I don’t need to check you for priors to know you’re a repeat offender. Get the fuck outta the car.”
Kim Ng makes history by being named GM of the Marlins. Very cool to see.
I’m sure Bill Singer was among the first to call and wish her well.
Hopefully Aubrey Huff could not be reached for comment.
Marc Topkin of the TBT (best beat writer in baseball IMHO) on some moves the Rays are considering due to budgetary constraints. Includes possible trades of Blake Snell or Kevin Kiermaier and non-tender candidates such as Hunter Renfroe. I’m sure former Rays exec James Click will be following those moves closely.
MLBTR with their list of possible non-tender guys. Ex-Astros Vince Velasquez, Nick Tropeano, Michael Feliz and Delino Deshields are among the group.
Theo Epstein is leaving FTC.
Robinson Cano’s wallet is $24MM lighter today.
That might be one the dumbest usages of PEDs of all time.
What a fool.
Conversely the Mets just got $24M more to throw at Springer
And DJ Lemehiue (however it’s spelled).
Per roundups posted by MLBTR:
-
the Braves are supposed to have strong interest in CFM
-
on top of the potential loss of CFM the Rays are alleged to be “open” to further gutting their rotation by trading Blake Snell (possible destinations mentioned: Braves, Angels, Mariners)
-
in the same article linked to about the Blake Snell trade possibility it “quotes” several execs as saying that if the Rays want to move Kevin Kiermaier they might have to pay down part of his salary
I’ll gladly take on all of Kiermaier’s salary for little prospect cost
Meh…Kiermaier is an older, lighter hitting version of Jake Marisnick, at four times the cost. I wouldn’t mind him as a fourth outfielder, if the Rays paid 70% of his salary, but they need to save money to find a legit replacement for Springer.
