Hot stove 2021

Well there goes that pipe dream.

He did not love us as much as we thought.

He meant what he said about being close to home. I respect it.

His “home” is shifting daily.

I will always love Charlie Morton, but lefts face it…”home” ain’t got nothing to do with it.

Well, then he is a liar because he said proximity to his Florida home was a major factor in signing with Tampa.

Atlanta, not so much.

I meant his signing with Atlanta. He did not sign with Atlanta so that he could drive to the stadium from his house in Bradenton every day.

Morton never stated that proximity to his home was the sole reason for signing with the Rays. They were a dream situation for him in both proximity to home and the amount of money he was making. Now the dream situation is gone: the Rays are dumping salary and only want him back at an extreme discount. The Marlins aren’t any better off.

The Braves are a good situation for him: they’re the next closest team, they are well built to contend, and they are paying him what he would’ve made in Tampa if his option hadn’t been declined. And if MLB is still in pandemic mode for part or all of 2021 then he’s on an eastern division team and will never travel to a different time zone. Dragging him for any of that is hardly fair, IMO.

Nice straw man. The next person who “drags” him will be the first.

Comments from who?

Jim called him a liar.

I don’t think Jim’s comment meant what you think it meant.

Okay.

Not even sure it meant what he thought it meant.

What the fuck, Waldo? Morton said proximity to home was a factor in choosing Tampa. I did not call him a liar or say it was the only/sole factor. I said IF it was not about home signing with Tampa then he lied when he said it was. I was replying to HH. Lots of money and two years were also factors. Atlanta is a completely different decision.

What a weird series of posts from you.

I’ll concede the point.

My son and I were discussing this. Morton got 15 mil for what may be his last season. There is a nice fairy tale element to finishing his career with the team that drafted him and he made his debut with but he went with the team that was willing to pay him.

Reports out of Tampa through the Athletic were that he was willing to give Tampa a discount (10-12 mil) but they clearly aren’t interested in paying that amount.

Sorta like McCann going back to the Braves also.

Not to mention he went with a team that has a legit chance to win it all…yes, prob a much better chance than the Stros.
