Silo’s S2 finale was excellent, and wholly unexpected.

Spoilery

I mean, I expected Juliette to make it back just in time to stop everyone streaming out, but the time jump came out of nowhere.

My only disappointment was that no one tossed Bernard over a railing.

Severance S2 opener was excellent too. It also just piled on what a mind fuck it is to have your mind fucked the way their minds are fucked.

Spoilerish

Whenever they come back it’s like they never left, be it a day or months, and the Innies and Outies really are two different people living two different lives in two different places, but who share the same body. :exploding_head:

I should have waited until more episodes were out to start this season of Severance. The weekly wait is going to kill me.

Silo covered a LOT of ground in that last episode. Like, the last 1/4-1/3 of the first book and even the beginning of the second book.

TV and book spoilers

In the first book Mechanical and Supply storm IT, with Knox, McLain, and many others eating shit as IT repels the attack. Then Sims (who is the head of IT security) rounds up his goons and heads downward to suppress what’s left of Mechanical. Juliette finds a way to communicate with silo 18 from 17, usually with Lukas while he is safely tucked away in the server room. Bernard eventually becomes suspicious of Lukas and his loyalties and orders him out to clean.

Juliette eventually catches wind of Lukas’s impending fate. Armed with a blanket made of heat tape to survive the fire outside the airlock, she leaves 17 and arrives at 18 in time to save Lukas. The airlock opens and closes… with Bernard on the outside. With IT security 100 levels away, Sheriff Billings turned on Bernard and forced him out to clean instead. Bernard dies in the fire while Juliette survives. (Also, Dr. Nichols doesn’t asplode himself.)

I’m honestly not sure which version I prefer. Bernard is a ruthless piece of shit who deserves his fate in the book, but he reports to bigger, more ruthless pieces of shit, so I like his character growth in the show as he becomes disaffected with the whole enterprise. Also, while I suspect Bernard is dead, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of him because Tim Robbins is fucking great in that role.

All in all, a satisfying end. If the last scene is any indication, we’re going to get at least some of the origin story of the silos which is detailed quite a bit in the second book, along with silo 18’s next steps and glimpses of the people pulling the strings behind the scenes.

I watched the first episode of Bad Monkey (Apple TV).

Amusing.

I’ll stick with it and report back.

Meanwhile, Landman continues to be absolutely ridiculous and compelling at the same time. It helps that I can fast forward thru whatever I want (i.e. both love stories, the retirement home stuff).

Is Bad Monkey based on Elmore Leonard or Carl Hiasson?

Amusing is a perfect description of Bad Monkey. Nothing deep, obvious flaws, but some genuine laughs in each episode.

Hiassen, Bad Monkey series is a fair representation of the book.
