A little Ted Lasso guest appearance for the long, long downtime: Ted Lasso performs "Patience" (Guns N' Roses cover) - YouTube
New season of Ozark dropped today.
How many episodes? Aren’t they breaking the last season into two parts?
I remember it was fun watching the meltdown when it was reported that the last Harry Potter book was going to be broken down into 7 movies. It was more fun because that report was in The Onion.
I miss the days when satire was relevant.
I know there are two seasons but sure if they broke it up. But filming is done for all of it.
7 episodes now, 7 later
It would have made sense if they had spent that extra time with relevant parts of the book.
Man I haven’t had a 7 & 7 in years
We’ve been recording and watching Around the World in 80 Days on PBS. It’s great TV.
Apple’s two new shows “Suspicion” and “The After Party” are very entertaining. Their shows seem to be like London buses: you wait forever for one and a bunch show up all at once.
“Suspicion” is a mystery thriller involving the kidnapping - with some style - of the son of a high-profile person, and 4 seemingly (so far) innocent people who are swept up by law enforcement as the culprits. Each has some shit going on that we don’t yet understand, but is this connected to the kidnapping?
“The After Party” is a kind of Hercules Poirot mystery, in which a hilariously ridiculous media star returns for his high school reunion and ends up murdered at his own after party. The premise of the show is that each guest relates their recollection of the events from their own perspective, so each episode takes on a different style depending on the character whose story we’re hearing.
It’s really well executed and really funny, with gags being set up in one episode but which don’t pay off until a later one. It’s operating on multiple levels and I think will require repeat watching once it’s all done.
We binge watched Reacher Thursday and Friday on Amazon. It’s pretty good, and a lot better than those movie versions with that short fellah.
I really enjoyed it also.
The song in Ep 4 was hilarious. “Fallin’ apart like The West Wing after Sorkin left.”
Good to know.
I actually like the first Reacher movie, despite or perhaps because it’s the most Tom Cruise a movie can be. It’s just an orgy of Cruisiness.
Wasn’t expecting a “High School Musical” episode, but it was fantastic in no small part because that main song was so funny and also so good.
I don’t understand. The West Wing ended after four seasons.
Holy shit, I just finished binging The Righteous Gemstones on HBO. What an absolutely bananas, off the rails wild ride that was.
Danny McBride is equal parts bat shit crazy and bat shit brilliant.
Man, we started Ozark about a month or so ago and binged it until we’re caught up now. What a great show, so tense. Hate to see it end but love that it has an ending which is a luxury a lot of shows don’t get.
But it’s intense. We would watch 1 or maybe 2 episodes at a time and have to watch something like Stargate Atlantis to come down from Ozark. This is one of those shows where everything is just right: the story, the writing, the actors, the cinematography–I don’t know the term for something that is shot so well, where the locations are perfect, etc so I’m going with cinematography.
The last show we’ve felt so unhappy about it ending was Bosch. What a great age for TV eh?
Then there’s Reacher. A really really good show, Jack Reacher is much more in tune with the Jack Reacher of the books than Tom Cruise was but the show lacks a kind of, I don’t know, gravitas? I know that word is way overused but my Friday afternoon brain can’t think of a better word. Worth watching for sure, very entertaining.
Total agreement. Prior to The Righteous Gemstones, I had never seen Vice Principals and only a few random episodes of Eastbound and Down. Before the start of the 2nd season of “Gemstones” I binged watched the first season. In between episodes of the 2nd season I binged my way through Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals. I have grown into a big Danny McBride fan.
The first time I can recall seeing Danny McBride in anything was Tropic Thunder.
“BIG ASS TITTIES!”
