Jan 14: After Life S3
Jan 17: Ozark S4
But, on Jan 13…
Stay Close was good. All the Coben series on Neflix have been really good. We’ve been binging short series detective shows/thrillers lately. Plus a sort of Agatha Christie type show from Spain called Alta Mar was really good. The dubbing was unnoticeable, compared to this one Italian show we watched called The Trial where the dubbing was kind of laughable.
Another one we just watched on Netflix was Fallet, described as a “spoof of Nordic noir crime shows”. It’s really funny. Basically a bumbling English detective goes to Sweden to help solve a crime, so the show is half in English and half in subtitled Swedish, but even if you don’t like subtitles it’s not really annoying. The show is really funny but with a British sort of sense of humor. It was produced in Sweden and says a lot for the Swedes’ command of English that the English bits aren’t subtitled. Highly recommend the show.
Just finished Stay Close and really liked it. I may try some of Coben’s others.
“Safe” is another one on Netflix that’s very much in the same vein.
They’re worth it. Safe and The Stranger are set in the UK, The Innocent is in Spain, Gone for Good in France and The Woods in Poland. The dubbing is good on those, but we think that something was lost in the translation in The Woods, there were some loose ends that didn’t seem to be tied up by the end. Either that or we missed some things, which is probably more likely.
This was on TV, so I’m going to post it here.
Crystal Palace scored this goal against hated rivals - and team that hasn’t beaten us in over 1000 days (and counting) - Brighton.
Every player for Palace had a part in the move. We made Brighton the Washington Generals to our Harlem Globetrotters.
We’re going to Alaska in July, so to get ready we started watching Northern Exposure. It’s not streaming anywhere, so we bought the disks. Remember disks? Anyway, I’d forgotten how funny that show was. If it had some baseball in it it’d be almost perfect.
Northern Exposure is the single greatest television show in the history of television. Unmatched brilliance.
It really is. I’ve been stunned by how well it holds up.
Even prescient:

Northern Exposure Predicts COVID-19 Reactions/“Russian Flu” - YouTube
We watched the Russian Flu episode last night. It was spot on.
My wife and I went hunting around to find it streaming a couple of months ago. No luck of course. When you are done, I’d be happy to “rent” it from you and then pass the disks along to the next interested party when done.
You’re welcome to borrow it. We just finished Season 1 (out of 6), and you may have to wait for my kids to watch it, but man is it fun.
Better version of the goal, counting the passes and checking off the players as they first touch the ball.
There’s a brief glimpse at the end of the traveling Palace fans going absolutely mental. That passion is one of the things that sets us apart from many clubs in the Premier League. Notably out opponents the night who’s fans were streaming out of the stadium before the 90 minutes was up despite the score sitting at 1-1.
Of course it was Gallagher who finished it.
We all know he’s only on loan from Chelsea, and they’d be mental not to take him back at the end of the season, but it’s still going to hurt when it happens.
Every time he scored against us is going to be a fresh hoof in the swingers. And we will be crying with both joy for him and pain from him.
Anyone watching Archive81? We’ve watched 2 episodes so far, it’s good. Creepy. MrsSid finds it too intense to watch more than 1 per night.
Hammered it home like he was smashing a watermelon?
That’s why the front row was going mental.
