Michael Papierski was called up by the Giants and will start behind the plate in today’s game against the Padres. Sent to SF in the Dubon trade.
I am really happy for him. Hope it works out.
Keuchel DFA by White Sox.
I’m afraid Keuchel may be washed up.
If they’re eating that contract? Yeah.
we had the best keuchel. made his money and moved on. New Tampa Bay.
Former Astro, once removed…
Despite being with an organization known for developing pitchers, Appel seems to put blame on the Astros for his struggles…
The Astros had begun piggybacking their starters throughout their minor league system, asking them to go four to five innings on three days’ rest. Appel, who was used to pitching six to seven innings every week, began feeling pain in his shoulder and elbow in 2014, pain he had never experienced before. He said he went to his manager in high-A Lancaster, Rodney Linares, and asked for an extra day. “He was like, ‘I hear you, and I want to give it to you, but I can’t, because it’s the front office’s call,’” Appel said. Linares, who is now a third-base coach for the Tampa Bay Rays, said he doesn’t recall the conversation taking place, but added that Appel could have talked to the team’s pitching coach. He said the Astros did made adjustments for Appel, but Appel didn’t buy into their program.
After his comeback which began last season, the former #1 overall pick is doing reasonably well for the Phillies AAA affiliate as a reliever…
And in 2022, as he nears age 31, he’s having a career season. His fastball velocity has risen to the upper 90s. His slider has more sweep to it. In April, he had a 2.38 ERA with seven strikeouts in six games. In May, he had a 1.04 ERA with 10 strikeouts in six games.
He’s posted a 1.08 WHIP in 21 IP thus far (just 17 Ks however).
Maybe he should blame his agent for not letting him sign with the Pirates since they have such a good record of developing pitchers.
Signs with D-backs and rejoins Brent Strom.
Smart. Watch him turn into the next Greg Maddox.
The umps (at least the majority) aren’t giving and extra 6" on either side of the plate anymore. As soon as that box started appearing on TV I knew Keuchel was probably not going to have the same kind of success he’d had in the past. I want to say that box started appearing post season of '17…may regular season of '18?
Nice moment for Stubbs
I did not realize that Musgrove is having the year he’s having. 8-0, and something like a 0.79 ERA in his last 5 starts.
Damn.
Good for the winning pitcher of the greatest game we’ll ever see.
And I’d still make the Cole trade 100 times out of 100
Of course. Great trade.
I’m not bemoaning the trade, merely pointing out that Musgrove is having a very nice season that I was unaware of.
