When you put it that way, I was probably being generous putting him as the 32nd man on the roster.
Yes, Iām saying exactly that. Do you feel better with Kyle Tucker playing defense in right field in the bottom of the 9th of a World Series game or Josh Reddick? Give me Reddick in right any day of the week. Iām not saying the guy should start 1 game. Iām saying he is a good cheap option to have on the bench.
Thereās one of his routes from 2020. Looked just fine to me.
Gonna have to disagree. Tucker doesnāt look pretty out there but he gets the job done. Reddick 2 years ago has a place on my roster. Reddick today doesnāt come close to it. And outfield help is not an issue, infield depth is the issue we have at the moment.
2018/2019 he catches that standing up.
Heās a decent fielder but I donāt trust him late in the game. There is one of the reasons I donāt.
Hey look you found one bad play. If I cared to take the time Iām sure I could find one for Reddick. Reddick had a good run with the Astros, but time to move on. He hasnāt been a good player since 2019
You are nuts. Reddick should go home and put his feet up. He is done.
I did and I could find several more for Tucker this year as well if I cared to. I like him and heās certainly one of the best hitters in our lineup. But heās not a very good fielder.
I agree heās done as a starting outfielder in this league but he would make a fine player off the bench.
Nuts. If the DBacks found him lacking in playing skills, that is the end of the line. He is not a fine anything in baseball except former Astro.
Itās not crazy to say Reddick would improve the outfield defensively in late innings.
But thatās the only niche he fills, and infield bench is more of a need than OF bench. And bullpen has proved to be more of a need than either.
They have only won 34 games this season. Iām sure they want to try some of their young prospects out in their remaining games. We have Brantley, McCormick and Tucker. Maybe you could play Diaz in left? Myers has zero major league experience so itās hard to count on him for much of anything yet, especially in a playoff situation. It makes me no difference if they sign him or not. I just hope our 3 outfielder remain healthy.
We donāt have the luxury of signing a late innings defensive specialist, if heās even that. Reddickās skills are eroded with time, and Iāll take my chances with Tucker because he hits.
Sorry, but I doubt he has enough left to even be a defensive replacement for Tucker. There are guys at Sugarland who are younger, faster, and better than 2021 Reddick.
Is he better than Meyers?
Maybe, maybe not but Meyers has upside Reddick doesnāt.
And there is only room for one of them.
Thatās how to fix a roster crunch - pick up another player.
It would be Brantley or Tucker depending on who made the latest out.
And thatās a far as Iām willing to go because I agree itās a non-starter.
Heās still one of my favorite Astros.
Last nightās starting infield featured two catchers, a shortstop who previously had 72 MLB innings at the position, and your superutility guy. Late inning outfield defense is not exactly high on the priority list right now.
That is irrelevant for can he play today! He is one of my all-time favorites too, but he is past his expiration date.
And he is one of mine.
And I like Tucker.
Heās not an instictive OF but he tries.
Because if his speed, he gets to more balls than the avg RF.
It makes up for the ones he muffs.
That said he is more of a LF than RF because of his arm and lack of instincts.
If one or more of the RF/CF prospects develop into MLB regulars I could see him playing LF in 2023 after Uncle Mikeās contract is up.
