Ex-Astros News 2021

Wouldn’t mind having him for the stretch run.

No way

I agree. He was a fine Astro. Lots of great memories. Let’s remember those.

He would be a good guy to bring in late in the game for his glove and arm in the outfield. Not a bad bat off the bench either.

His 2017 ALDS 8th inning game 4 2 out go ahead rbi single off of Kimbrel is a great memory.

He is done. He cannot play any more.

He would be like the 32nd guy on the roster.

I disagree. You wouldn’t have saw a routine fly ball into right field go off of his glove and go into the stands for a home run. Reddick would have ran through the wall to make that catch. He’s certainly not good enough to start on this team but he’s good enough to come in late for defense and for an experienced bat coming off the bench.

Ah, yesteryear. So great.

What’s not so great is Kyle Tucker’s defense.

Reddick’s defense had taken a noticeable turn for the worse last season, and the metrics back up the eye test.

Reddick was a terrific outfielder, but Tucker’s defense is not the problem, and Reddick is not the answer. The bullpen has hamstrung this team in many ways, including defensively. They’ve made moves to attempt to address that problem. I hope it pays off.

The 'pen looks much improved. More concerning is the rotation’s recent struggles to get through the 4th-5th innings with a lead.

Agreed.

How can the same rotation be so steady?

They have weeks where evety start is 6+ innings

Then weeks where the same starters can’t get to the 5th.

And the opponents do not make any difference.

He did have 2 errors in 50 games last season for a .978 fielding percentage. But he also had 5 errors in his first season in Houston in 2017 for a .976 fielding percentage.

Yes, the pen looks improved, but that improvement has come at a cost in the form of position players. You lost your starting center fielder, one of your best all-around utility guys/pinch hitter from both sides of the plate, plus you’ve had to limit the number of position players overall which results in things like Maldonado having to start at 1B. Just making the point that the bullpen struggles have been an issue beyond just who pitches the 7th inning.

And I agree that the starter’s not going deep or hanging on to leads is a problem.

Don’t look at errors. Errors are random. Reddick had lost a step, or two actually and is a zero at the plate. If he is your answer, you’re asking the wrong question

I will say that this team is short on the bench. That doesn’t mean Reddick is the answer

The lineups the past several days show that, clear as day.

The 5 games in NL parks, the team should not have played with a short bench. That is the time that you need an extra bat !!

I need to look at the pitching staff. It may be that none of them have options, which if so, is in itself a problem

But Taylor Jones should have been on the bench in SF and LA.

The team should not have to pinch hit with a pitcher in a game unless it’s well into extra innings, or that pitcher hits like a position player.

What is it you’re trying to say? That the guy that could not hang on as the 5th outfielder on literally the worst team in all of baseball has a place on this Astros team? Is that what you are trying to say?

It is exactly what he is saying, and it is crazy.

Right, and those position player losses were magnified by having two series in NL parks immediately after the deadline (along with Yuli being out). Yesterday or Wednesday, a video of Bregman running was posted on Twitter… unless he was intentionally going about 70%, that video gives me no hope of his returning to form any time soon.
