Electric Vehicles

Meanwhile, in Auston:

The RAV4 crossover sold 50K (435K vs. 385K) more units than the Model Y. Not sure what they are talking about there.

Are you looking at worldwide sales? I think Tesla used to sell a butt-load in China.

Tesla’s original strategy was to drive acceptance and subsidize the development of EVs with upmarket, higher cost cars, then subsequently mass produce more affordable cars. Looks like Elon has pivoted away from the lower cost car market, possibly because he is concerned about the Chinese competition, or more likely because he wants to play in the AI space with his tech bros in Silicon Valley.

The shut down and possible sell off of the charging network is probably to hoard cash for AI. That apparently is what is behind a lot of the big tech layoffs around here (SF Bay area).

I think in his latest Musksplaining to investors said that people who look at Tesla as a car company have it wrong. It’s an AI company.

Lewis Black explains:

If y’all’ll pardon a meme:

Musk fired the entire SuperCharger team in a fit of pique.

The meeting could not have gone worse. Musk, the employees said, was not pleased with Tinucci’s presentation and wanted more layoffs. When she balked, saying deeper cuts would undermine charging-business fundamentals, he responded by firing her and her entire 500-member team.

Don’t forget, this is coming on the back of the entire US EV industry - from vehicles to chargers - agreeing to switch to the Tesla-style NACS charge port.

We must be nearing the point where rational people simply stop doing business with Musk because of the inherent risk, right? I don’t imagine that anyone who depends on SpaceX sleeps very well.

Funny you should mention that:

The result, several of those businesses told Reuters, is a reluctance to work on SpaceX-related projects again. “If they were to call me today, I’d tell them to fuck off,” said Brian Rozelle, an owner of Hydroz Energy Services LLC.

We are being ruled by unhinged dragons asleep on piles of gold.
