COVID-19

Oh, sure. I know the protests are blamed by those who demanded reopening. I am saying that thesis will not withstand scrutiny, but facts and evidence are of no consequence to many.

So bad, I had to google who it even was, and it was only two years ago.

Lupe Valdez, for those that are curious.

I seem to be related a large majority of them.

In other Abbott and Patrick news, the State GOP convention is going on as planned in Houston, but those 2 will be giving their speeches via video.

I reckon she’s not a bad person, but she lacks any charisma and was a terrible campaigner.

What utter bollocks! They should do the right thing and cancel the in-person convention.

I think they will. This whole stunt wasn’t about the convention (nothing gets accomplished at those things that hasn’t already been done) or public health. They were trying to bait Turner into controversy for being the urban democratic mayor who is preventing republicans from having their convention. Once he didn’t fall for it, more and more speakers are going to announce that they’re doing it remotely. They’ll push the whole thing.

I hope you’re right. But playing politics with people’s lives should get one strung up by the balls.

If they had any

Well, yeah. It’s not like they’re known for doing the moral, ethical, responsible thing.

Right. But everyone planning on going to the convention must be thinking “WTF?” that these a-holes are still expecting - or at least head-faking - that everyone should still go…except them. I think it’s ridiculous, but conventioneers should be marching on Austin with torches and pitchforks.

You mean like this:

Fucking with the health and safety of people’s children is a pretty horrible campaign strategy. Both in substance and style.

Agreed, but the selfishness and idiocy of Donald Trump knows no bounds.

Betsy Devos gave a speech today in which she insisted that schools nationwide had to open, and open safely. And then said that it was up to the local administrations to make that happen. #Leadership

Some data. Sweden, the pariah of the EU with it’s controversial management of COVID-19 has horrible numbers relative to their neighbors.

They deliberately let the virus run, and yet they still have numbers better than the US.

Trump is currently taking a lap of honor over the fact that the US has the lowest mortality rate in the world. Of course, it’s not even close to being true; the US has the 9th worst mortality rate, and two of the 8 countries worse than us are San Merino and Andorra.

As an aside, I saw that there has been a statistically unusual spike of home deaths in Harris county, attributable to heart attacks and strokes, the risks of both of which are increased by COVID-19. Our mortality rate is terrible, and we may not even be counting all of the dead.

Yesterday: “Education leaders really do need to examine real data and weigh risk,” DeVos said. “They already deal with risk on a daily basis. We know that risk is embedded in everything we do. Learning to ride a bike, to the risk of getting in a space capsule and getting shot off in a rocket into space.”

Toughen up kids, parents, faculty, and staff.

It’s truly mind boggling that Trump’s approval rating continues to hover around the high-30s.
