COVID-19

I vote his pencil dick is the sharpest.

Azar says “the window is closing” to get control but denies reopening too soon is a reason. Loyal soldier to the end.

I think one could make the argument that reopening too soon wasn’t by itself the problem; rather, it was the way in which the reopening happened. If we had reopened and required people to wear masks in public hen things wouldn’t be nearly as bad.

Whew! I thought Texas was in trouble but I just saw Abbot and Pence do a marvelous duet and as it turns out: Everything’s great! Abbot is a genius and Pence is his Guiding Light.

My post said “a” reason. No doubt irresponsible behavior played a large part.

In two weeks the Texas Republican Party will hold it’s 6,000 person indoor convention at the GRB. Abbott has decreed that this will go ahead regardless of health concerns. Pence is due to make an appearance, but not Trump himself.

Texas Republicans move forward with plans for an indoor convention in Houston, the state’s biggest coronavirus hot spot

Gov. Greg Abbott is allowing limits on outdoor crowds — but not indoor gatherings. His party’s convention — with an expected attendance of 6,000 — so far will not require attendees to wear face masks.

I feel sorry for the people who have to work that convention, but holding the convention virtually would lead into discussions about absentee voting.

Good thing I’m on my throwaway keyboard.

I would say you need masks, limited people density and limited stay time to say 30-40 minutes. Also, you need to avoid circumstances where people have to raise their voices to be heard (Iike a loud bar) and singing by anyone. Hospitals and grocery stores have controlled spread in interior spaces, so I’m guessing it’s possible, just seems you need more rules than just masks.

Masks are the essential. Anything without masks will be ineffective.

Y’all in Houston need to stock up and lock down.

Just to be clear, those are all symptomatic people waiting to be tested.

I counted over 300 cars. Assuming they can test two people every five minutes (about on par with the clinic I went to in Austin) and only one person per car, that’s a smooth 12.5 hours to test everyone in line.

There were similar lines, albeit somewhat shorter, heading to the Mexican Consulate from every direction for testing yesterday.

HEB announced yesterday that they were restricting how much toilet paper, hand sanitizer and other products shoppers could buy. It took less than two months to wipe out all of the progress made in Texas from our 42-day lockdown.

I got an email this morning from the Texans telling me I can opt out of the 2020 season, with no penalty. I can pick back up again in 2021 with the same seats and it will not effect my PSL. If I opt out, I can choose a full immediate refund for 2020, or I can apply that, along with a 10% credit at the stadium, to my 2021 tickets. Of course, this is without knowing what the plan is for seating, or tailgating, or how they get people in the stadium, or any other logistics.

I went to HEB this morning to get a few things ahead of the holiday weekend, specifically a brisket, some strawberries, and Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. It was pretty deserted and they were pretty well fully stocked, except for hand soap, which they haven’t had since March anyway. I’m guessing that will change in the next day or two.
