Florida just dropped 9585 new cases for today, proving yesterday’s number was no anomaly. The virus has run wild in Florida and only an complete, immediate lockdown can save them now. The next three weeks are already baked in, so this trend will continue at least that long. If it continues beyond that, Florida will be a killing ground in July.
Texas, Arizona and California aren’t in much better shape.

My FIL and his wife refuse to return to Deerfield Beach, and they are/were fervent tinfoil-hat deniers. South Florida has an enormous elderly population and as Texifornia notes we may soon see a horror show.
It’s probably too much to hope for, but I’m hoping that all of this will cause at least some of those folks to question whether Trump et al might be lying about other things too after seeing how much they’ve lied about this.

So far today: Florida’s 7 day average will go almost vertical after a third straight day well over 8000, Arizona has already posted a new daily high and South Carolina has emerged as the new blast zone for the virus.
Still no national policy, no plan for how to control and live with this virus. Trump may want to ignore the virus, but the virus doesn’t care, it will spread and infect. Come mid July it will begin killing in increasing numbers. A younger age profile may slightly reduce the case fatality rate from earlier, but the overwhelming number of cases will assure fatalities in staggering numbers. I predict daily fatalities of 5000 or more by the end of July.
Trump thinks ignoring the virus will bring economic recovery, but only controlling the virus can bring economic recovery. He doesn’t have the courage to do what’s needed. He would rather Americans die by the tens of thousands than put in the effort required.
