Methodist hospital in the Med Center is being turned over exclusively to COVID-19.
- Trump says that he told his people to slow down testing
- His zambonis clarify that he was joking
- Trump says he wasnât joking and repeats his âcomplaintâ about testing
- Medical experts are asked if theyâve been asked to slow down testing; they say ânoâ
- The federal government announces that it will end funding for COVID-19 testing
The question and response from Fauci et al in Congress this week was a red herring; they arenât Trumpâs people. Trump is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do. There is absolutely no reason to do this other than to make it harder to get tested. More people will die because he did this.
I admire your dedication and strength.
I eventually decided a U-Haul was much easier.

Serious question - has anyone figured out why the Trump administration decided to quit funding testing in Texas? The last I saw, polling was close enough to where the GOP might actually have to spend real money campaigning in Texas, which is just a previously unthinkable development, so going out of your way to murder your core base of voters seems like a puzzling way forward.
I assume itâs typical Trump shitlogic: less testing equals less disease
I guess I should ask why they decided to announce that they were going to quit funding testing.
Someone needs to remind them that this is an election year.
? 2017 was an election year for Trump.
One of Mrs Limeyâs clients is a senior neurosurgeon there.
He wants to âslow downâ testing, and this is the only way he can do that. I saw a report that he is already spending money to run campaign ads here. He is currently +1 over Biden in Texas. I know Trump is clueless, but Iâm starting to think that heâs boiled off any competence in his administration and campaign, and is now surrounded by enablers who just try to do his bidding - however insane or self-harming - to avoid being shouted at or fired.
As things get worse, he will make decisions that dig him deeper into the hole. It would take a scintilla of self-awareness and humility to have the press spoodging over him âbecoming presidentâ (three and a half years in) but he cannot muster even that. He will eleventy-down on division, bigotry and hate* and that will only drive more and more independents into Bidenâs camp. That, and the entire country being ravaged by a deadly plague which he has made only worse by deliberate action.
- There is a theory that he and his supporters cannot generate the hatred of Biden that they could for Obama and Clinton because heâs a white man. Thatâs a depressing thought, but one that makes more and more sense every day.
He got a cheer when he said that. He thinks itâs a winner.
Four months into this thing, and we just set a the single day record for new cases, 36,975.
If youâre wondering why Gov Abbott went on TV yesterday to ask people to stay home (while continuing to push for Phase 3), itâs this:
We jumped from the single-day record of 4,760 new cases to 5,080 new cases to 6,584 new cases, on consecutive days. If we locked down right now, it would take 3 weeks to turn this curve around. Texas is about to become the worldâs new COVID-19 epicenter, and thatâs in a world were Florida is a thing.
New Jersey is part of the tri-state 14-day quarantine order on people who have been in states with out-of-control COVID-19 outbreaks. These states include Oklahoma and Arizona, both of which Trump visited this week. Despite this, he plans to go golfing at his Bedminster, NJ resort this weekend.
Ignoring the hypocrisy of him golfing during three ongoing national crises, how is this permissible? Even if they give Trump a pass (and why should they) his entire entourage was exposed as much as, probably more, than he was. To wit:
Secret Service agents quarantine after Tulsa Trump rally

A U.S. Secret Service agent and supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump watch as he arrives at his first re-election campaign rally in several months in the midst of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.ReutersDozens of Secret Service personnel were instructed to self-quarantine as a precaution against the coronavirus following President Donald Trumpâs rally last week in Tulsa, Okla., according to a report.
The order came after two Secret Service members and at least eight Trump campaign advance staffers tested positive for the virus, including two staffers who learned of their infection after the president returned to Washington on Wednesday, The Washington Post reported.
Love how these two fucking cowards go after HHS and FEMA, rather than the man who told them to slow down testing.
Itâs as if they donât realize that the president has the authority to appoint certain people to run federal agencies during his or her term.
Itâs one of those subtleties of governing that sometimes escapes the notice of those who are uninterested in governing.
âFEMAâ and the MAGA-ts will somehow spin this as âthose liberals who brought all those black people in trailers are now doing this to us!â
Thatâs right, FEMAâs an easy target.
These two lizards know perfectly well that the people who vote for them are too fucking stupid to think beyond whatever nonsense they spout on any given day. They know that the overwhelming majority of their base of support lives in a distorted information bubble and has no desire to leave it and lacks the tools to usefully process information even if they did somehow find themselves outside the bubble for a few terrifying minutes. Itâs a pretty appalling level of cynicism, but Iâm afraid thatâs on about page 3 of the list of their unpardonable sins.
Meanwhile back at the plague:
Our country is headed over a fucking cliff. WorldOMeters had the U.S. at a record over 40,000 new cases on Thursday. The upslope on the national curve is scary enough but if one looks at TexasâŚitâs bad. California is not much better and neither is Florida.
There has not, somewhat surprisingly, been any noted increase due to the demonstrations. Widespread testing in Minnesota and New York among demonstrators shows no abnormally high positives and the overall rate has not increased in those states but has decreased or remained at a very low level. The data is very persuasive that outdoor activity with masks is pretty safe. However, indoor activity can be deadly.
Hopefully, the mortality rate of this surge will be less than in April because the age profile of the newer cases may skew a little younger. Still, I expect fatalities to begin rising mid to late July and could go very high if ICUs become overwhelmed. Unfortunately, it seems likely ICUs will be overwhelmed in some places.
I donât know if the economy can take another shutdown, but I donât see how it can be avoided.
