COVID-19

Looks like Houstonians are starting to figure out that eating out during a pandemic is is a bad idea:

The truly sad part is that letting restaurants re-open too soon and then shutting them shown again - something that even Gov. Abbott has mooted recently - will crush those that had a chance to survive. Oh, and it accelerated the spread of the virus too, so everyone loses.

We are not being lead by serious people. The damage that is being wrought, and will continue to be wrought until changes to leadership can be made, will be catastrophic and generational.

It’s impossible for the press to have a rational back and forth with Trump, but it is entirely in their control how they report what he says and does. Even now, they still try to rationalize it, and explain it as if there is some merit to it - or at least a strategy - when it’s really just a crazy old man yelling at a table lamp.

Europe is planning to re-open for international travel on July 1. Plague-ridden Americans are not welcome.

The EU is considering barring Americans from entering the bloc because the United States has not adequately controlled the spread of COVID-19, The New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing draft lists of travelers who would be allowed.

Travelers from Russia and Brazil would also be blocked from entering EU countries under the lists, according to The Times.

Did Boris describe us as a “shithole country”?

Did Boris finally leave the EU? Macron would probably describe the US that way.

The UK is staggering towards a hard Brexit, but it’s not got there yet. A ban by the European Union would likely apply to the UK too, until they finally Brexit*.

  • Brexit has been likened to a cat sitting by the door and, when you go and open it, the cat just stares at you like you’re a dumbass.

After 10 years, my formerly silent cat has decided that she is going to make up for lost time and put her newfound vocal skills to constant use. It’s not the best development in the world.

At a Trump event in virus-ridden Arizona today. There are no words…

10 year cats are amazing. Its like they rediscover life and begin to think like kittens. Millie will be 10 in a couple days, a rescue doomed to death twice but escaping both times.

Fauci said some positive things today about a vaccine in 6-8 months, so I would guess at least a year of this to go. My work is already planning on our current mode (which is mostly WFH with some essential work done on site) for the rest of the year.

Nothing witty- my 16-yo is finally slowing down. A remarkable life dedicated to fresh kill despite canned food in her bowl, she gave zero effs about anything but her life. I’ve always been the “dumbass.” Since she was but months old we’ve not had a mouse nor have our neighbors despite living next to a large nature preserve. The dame of the house, she has earned her retirement.

The European Union has 24 official languages and 450 million people. There is no reason that they should be better at this than us, let alone crushing it while we flail and die. The US has 5% of the world’s population and 25% of the world’s deaths.

As Americans, we will likely be banned from travel to Europe, or at least quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. However, as Texans, we cannot travel to New York.

It’s all that testing!

I’m waiting for one of these geniuses to question why the deaths don’t slow down if the testing slows down.

Yesterday, Trump asked what the 19 in “COVID-19” meant. Apparently no one knows or can explain it to him. He thinks it’s an odd name.

They named it 19 so it would be too old for him to hit on.

He must have missed Kellyanne’s dumbass comment about the same subject. Ignorant evil.
