Well we are testing more than at the beginning, but our testing rate has dipped a little since late April. So the fact that case counts are going up while the testing rate remains flat or lower, suggests we have more cases rather than more discovery of cases.
Stay at home was never meant to be a more than 2 month solution. It was to buy us time to get testing ramped you, contract tracing set up, etc.
We wasted it. Weāll pay the price.
Iāve been in SA this week and they do a daily briefing during their 6:00 news broadcast, that is to very straightforward and short. Itās very refreshing to see. But during Thursdayās briefing I fell a little bit in love with Nelson Wolfe. He was talking about the AG and their legal differences. He was just great saying that they wonāt be arrested anytime soon as the courts are still siding with them and not the AG. Again, it was quite refreshing to see simple facts about the data gathered and their steps moving forward.
So, it would be great if the country could get their act together and lead in such a simple and straightforward manner. The fly-overs are great, but arenāt really what the public needs right now. I have a feeling that it will be politics as usual though in the future.
I am confused by the quote from Birx and the subsequent highlighted sentence in the article. Apparently, sheās questioning the veracity of CDCās death reporting, claiming itās antiquated in her mind and over-reporting certain deaths as COVID deaths. Okay, but that method is their historical method, which was part of theIr āgold-standardā reputation. Her rationale and that sentence donāt square.
This is the whole thing right here. Everyone is talking at cross-purposes, contradicting each other and themselves on a daily basis, all to appease the man-baby in the White House who canāt keep a thought straight in his head for the length of a sentence.
He said yesterday (I think) that testing is the problem because it shows up cases; presumably meaning that we should stop testing. He then switched to focusing on āObamagateā as if the pandemic is over. Thatās it, heās done with it. Give up, move on, donāt count the dead because they hurt his poll numbers.
Until those charged with public health responsibilities step up and ignore Trump, we will not get out of this.
As if to reinforce my previous post, Trump just said this in the Rose Garden:
Other things have never had a vaccine and they go away.
He so desperately wants to change the channel on this, while the bodies continue to pile up. We are so fucked with this guy in the Oval.
Nelson Wolff and Ron Nirenberg have shown some great crisis leadership for San Antonio and Bexar County.
He was the first base coach on my youth baseball team. He would always say to me āwhen I say āgitā you run to second base like a bunny rabbit with its tail on fire and second base is a bucket of cold water.ā
Did you stay in character and slide into 2B butt-first?

Here in Vermont they opened up testing to everyone today, no doctor referral required, asymptomatic ok, no suspected contact ok and all of it free. Simply drive up and get tested at pop up testing centers all over the state. And, they are actively promoting it on radio, TV and with location-based internet ads saying āwe want you to get tested, as often as you likeā. When you get the test, you also can sign up for contact tracing and UVM-directed research programs right then and there. Iām guessing the infection numbers will be believable from an entire state perspective in the next 7-10 days.
Itās Friday afternoon, so the Trump administration is demonstrating its laser-focus on the pandemic.
Iām kidding:
- McEneny completely destroyed the scandal that they ignored the existing pandemic response playbook, showing two large binders that she said were the Trump administrationās response playbook and so it is better because itās in two binders. Iām serious. WTF is in those binders? They havenāt been doing anything.
- They indulged in spaceman dress-up in the Oval, where the unveiled they Space Force flag and Trump talked about the āsuper-duperā missile (no, really).
- Trump is heading to Camp David this weekend to kibitz with the whoās who of GOP fuckwits and lickspittles including Kevin McCarthy, Gym Jordan, human frat-paddle Matt Gaetz, Dan Crenshaw, Devin Nunes, Mark Meadows, Lee Zeldin and Elise Stefanik who has the biggest dick and, presumably, is in charge of bringing the snacks.
Meanwhile, weāre still losing 1,000-2,000 people a day. No word on tests, tracing, re-opening protocols (aside from the 6 pages they released yesterday) or even copies of those two fucking binders. Just distraction, nonsense and āhave a great weekend; Iāll see you on Mondayā.
And, speaking of Space Forceā¦
Thatās terrific!
Our Lite Governor is leading the way!
Hope he is on the 50 yard line with all of his pals.

Like this part: The lieutenant governor also proposed ways to skim time off the actual game by limiting timeouts in the last minute of basketball games and limiting how long a batter in baseball can step out of the box to readjust his gloves.
Itās like forgoing the 20th cigarette of your third pack of the day.
Cut him some slack. Heās had a lot of time on his hands living in his big house with no worries about money at all.
I mean, you can only shout at poor people to get back to work so many times before the mind wanders to more important stuff.
I forget that he was once a leading sports journalist.
